Traction Devices!!!

Postby k2sb2003 » Thu Nov 21, 2019 2:44 pm

Okay, I have searched everywhere and to no avail, I am stuck right here... Bothering you poor people with this question that's probably been answered several times...LOL

So, here's the deal. 2012 Nissan Pathfinder LE 4.0L. I need additional traction out back.. I initially wanted a Helical Limited Slip for a full time assistance since VDC is actually pretty good. The other option is a electronic locker and tie it into a factory diff lock button from the Xterra/Frontier in the space next to the VDC button.

I really don't want the ARB setup, but that may be the only option.

Let me know what you have and what you recommend... TYIA

If I'm not mistaken, I don't think you can use the electric lock-up diff from the Frontier/Xterra. I believe the electronic lock-up is specific to the M226 differential, which is a modified Dana 44 unit. I believe all of the R51 Pathfinders use the C200K rear, which is completely different. The whole axle can't be swapped, either, because the R51 uses an independent rear set-up with coil springs and multiple control arms and the Frontier/Xterra has a straight axle with leaf springs. Hopefully, someone else who has looked into it more can give you some advice.

There are a couple threads floating around here about the R200 in the R51. The R200 and C200k are similar except the R200 uses c clips so not a direct swap. SMJ, as usual, is right about the Frontier/X diff w/ elocker. Its the M226 which is totally different.

One forum member was able to use a C200k Powertrax locker but had to find a machinist willing to mess with the locker so the clips would fit. Its a mechanical locker

I think a couple forum members now have the ARB in the rear from Steve over at Rugged Rocks. He is honestly the most knowledgeable on this.

Diagrams suggest a the Quaife QDF10L helical LSD will be a direct swap as its designed for the R200s in 350z. The only thing with 350zs is some came with different length CV shafts on either side. Maybe find someone with a great return policy before you go this route. I think this will be the easiest of the rear traction additions.

I had been hoping to put the Quaife in mine but I've been doing lots of other tinkering that was a higher priority.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, i figured that the Xterra/Frontier was different due to difference of IRS/Live axle.

I took the PF out today for the first time and honestly felt that the traction control did very well with the new tires/suspension I installed.

The Quaife is really what I would like to do. I cannot find the half-shaft length of the 350Z with an automatic to compare the difference.

Any recommendations?

From my searching the 350z Auto w/o LSD has equal length stubshafts.

It would be great to find the technical drawings from the R51 R200 as it would answer a lot of these questions.

The link below is the tech specs for the Quaife QDF10L, which I believe will work for V6 R51. I would email these tech drawings to Steve at Rugged Rocks (https://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/index.ph ... on/contact) and see if he can help crack the code. He seems to have the most experience inside the Pathfinder R200.

This thread viewtopic.php?t=16250& really makes me think the Quaife will work. You could also call Z1 Motorsports ([email protected] or 770-838-7777) for more info on the 350z diff.

I just reread my other post and its a bit misleading.

The manual and LSD 350z have different length stubshafts, not half shafts which changes the carrier a bit. Maybe kevinthefro can illuminate a little bit since he has swapped his R200 for one from a G35.

The 350z Auto w/o LSD carriers should be direct swaps for the Pathfinder.

My bad.
