Oil light comes on after cranking

beginning around 2000 miles after an oil change. It also is kinda flickery. There are no real leaks to speak of, and it doesn't smoke. It has around 165K miles in it. Is this fairly normal?

Not really.. It could be a faulty oil pressure switch or an issue with the wire to the switch. The OP switch is cheap and easy to replace and it's not uncommon for them to leak. Another issue could be low oil pressure. If you test the oil pressure and find it low at idle, one possibility is a leak at the oil gallery cover gasket on the rear timing cover (you would not see an external leak with this, as it drains back into the crankcase).
