Replacement Engine

Postby crispins » Mon Nov 02, 2020 4:06 pm

The 197k engine in my 2005 is done for.

It eats coolant and oil in large amounts.

I read on another thread that I can use any VQ40DE engine from 2005 to 2019

I have found a 2018 replacement engine

I just want to confirm with someone who knows about these engines.

If I get the 18 will it be a drop in replacement or is there switching of sensors and things to do?

I am really hoping it is drop in and the read this thread reads it seems like it is.

Thank you so much in advance!

I hope I can confirm this so I can order the engine ASAP

Yes, if you find a VQ40DE from a Frontier it will bolt right in! They are all the same and you can find them in:

NISSAN FRONTIER 2005-2019
NISSAN NV1500 2012-2018
NISSAN NV2500 2012-2018
NISSAN NV3500 2012-2018
NISSAN PATHFINDER 2005-2012
NISSAN XTERRA 2005-2015
SUZUKI EQUATOR 2009-2012

Looks like I am going to order a 2018 Frontier engine

yes, the engine remained pretty much the same over the years. Keep the original wiring harness and I think the oil pressure sender from the old engine. I've now added 10K kilometers to my replacement engine.
