Rear bump stops / part number confusion

Postby underworld1001 » Wed Nov 25, 2020 12:13 am

Hoping some one can answer this if possible. I have a 97 Pathfinder and am having trouble finding which bump stop part number is valid or if they're one and the same. Maybe one was for 4WD and another for 2WD? I do need at least one replacement since one is torn/ripped from age. I did find 1 company that makes aftermarket ones called Febest.

Nissan
55240-0W010 - 1996-2004
55240-AD010 (replaced part # 55240-5V010) - 1999-2000

Aftermarket - Febest Auto
ND-021 - 1996-2004
https://febestparts.com/REAR_SHOCK_ABSO ... PER/ND-021

I suppose what's throwing me off is the AD010 part. The 0W010 & aftermarket ND-021 line up as being compatible. I have a 97 anyway so the AD010 wouldn't be compatible if the Nissan parts site I'm looking at is correct. Maybe someone can clear it up if they know.

I can see why it's confusing! So, when I look up the bound bumper for a 97 Pathfinder, I come up with 55240-0W010, which is the gray bumper; this lists as being "to 12/98, from 12/98." The yellow bound bumper is the 55240-AD010 (supersedes 55240-5V010), which lists as being for "from 12/98." Of interest, I noticed the rear coil spring part number changes at 12/98. I do know that in 1999, Nissan did a mid-year refresh. Up to VIN -350000, it was pretty similar to the 96-98 models and the rear axle has one shock absorber in front of it on one side and behind the axle on the other side, a design that is primarily used to defeat axle wind-up during hard take-offs from a stop. On the 99.5 models, starting with VIN -350001, Nissan relocated one of the rear shocks so that both were behind the axle. They also changed the front grille, bumper covers and some other cosmetic changes. It's possible they are interchangeable. If it were my Pathfinder, I'd go with the 55240-0W010 if my production date was before 12/98 and if it was 12/98 or later, I'd go with the 55240-AD010. Even better, go with the one that looks like the one on your vehicle!

So the ones that I have on mine are the black/grey ones. I'm curious if the other ones will fit as well (mostly because I can get them for almost 50% off compared to OEM). Will more than likely head to the junk yard and compare fitment. They take all the wheels off the vehicles after they move them into place in the lot so I should have an easy time comparing. As luck would have it, they have 2 pre-facelift and 2 post facelift. I'll take pics and post the comparisons here.

My gut instinct is that each will fit any year of the R50. At the very least, I would want to use the same on each side, or, in other words, not have a gray bound bumper on one side and yellow on the other. I believe I saw the gray bumpers for around $54 from Nissan, not including shipping.

Alright, just got back from the junk year earlier. Unfortunately I forgot my phone in my car and didn't get pictures, but I did walk around and compare the part numbers on them to the others in the yard. All were factory and lined up exactly the same and they all had the same - 55240-0W010 - part number. I also forgot to take my complete ratchet set in with me (dunce) as I thought it was in my tool box so didn't did what I could visually. As such, I wasn't able to take any of them off. They were all tore at the same location where it narrows towards the bottom.

I did read somewhere that someone tried a 4Runner bump stop from a 96 model and it worked fine. Extremely close to the same length and the bolt/thread pattern was the same. It's not a huge priority to replace these so I just picked up some Permatex black silicone adhesive to glue the tore part on mine back in the meantime. When I have some expendable money I'll pick up a aftermarket urethane one after I measure the factory ones. I'll update this thread when I do.
