Ordering up the McMaster 200 and the ends but how much is shipping to Canada? Their site doesn’t say. Cheers

No shipping to Canada

Postby Swerve » Tue Dec 10, 2019 3:35 pm

I got into contact with them and they quoted $22 for shipping; great.

Then they canceled my order.

"Due to the cost and complexity of shipping our products to Canada, we are only able to accept orders from businesses and schools. We’ve canceled your order. If this material is not for personal use, please resubmit your order online using the business or school name."

so i'm stuck. Any alternatives out there?

This thread is horrible. 15 pages and there is no place to find specs, application for models or years, or part numbers in one location. For people searching: Gas strut, hatch, liftgate, gas spring, hydraulic, glass, rear window

My 2010 Pathfinder S has hatch struts that mostly match the length of McMaster number 9416K148,
extended length 18.19" or 18.18" depending where you look and 7.87" travel. These have M8 threads, but my sockets/end fittings have M6 threads, so they can't be reused. The ball is 10mm. The end fitting is 30mm (1.18") long, of which 18mm (.71") from the threads to the center of the ball and 12mm (.47") to the rounded end. This matches 9416K76 end fitting. For any of you McCarthy-era stiffs who want metric parts listed in inches, McMaster will be right up your alley.

The glass struts are close to McMaster part 9416K16 gas springs with 13.74" extended length. 5.47" travel. These come with M6 threads, which match my stock end fittings.

I actually just did the hydraulics on my rear liftgate and glass on Monday for my 2008. I didn't go with anything fancy like these guys though since I like to keep everything simple except my suspension.

I guess you could bitch about every last detail not being consolidated in one post of this thread but then what fun would reading be? SMJ handled it for you. Funny this thread got revived as I was just going to revive another thread.

Back in late 2014 (8 years on OEM parts) I replaced all 4 lift supports with new McMaster-Carr ones, 9416K148 Gas Spring with Threaded Ends, 200 Force, 18.18" Extended Length, 7.87" Stroke & 9416K162 Gas Spring with Threaded Ends, 30 Force, 13.74" Extended Length, 5.47" Stroke, as the OEM's were all very weak if not failed at that point. The 200# Hatch supports are still going strong 8 years later. The glass lifts gave out at-least a year ago, probably longer at this point because I don't remember. I don't have any regrets over choosing the 200 vs 225's as I haven't seen any issues with the hatch opening even in the single digits temp wise. The glass lifts though, no idea what happened there. I use it far less than the hatch. And I'm not sure I'm willing to go up to the 40# ones as the 30's are really 37# and the 40's are 49#. Seems like a lot of force.
