The latest is I have a dead motor. Did a leak down test. Had no air flow out the exhaust or intake but lots of air thru the crank case breather. Got a bore scope and looked inside the cylinders. #1 has deep scratches in the cylinder wall. Cat on right back rattles like marbles in a tin can.Local sho...

Ok got a leak down tester and a bore scope. Now how do I find tdc? There are some white marks on the balancer and what looks like a pointer to the right / passenger side of the engine. My reading says the timing marks are on the timing chain and the cover has to be removed. any thoughts would be app...

Ok, so today I did a compression & leak down test #1 has zero compression. Added oil & no change. All other cylinders have 160 psi with zero leak down. So is this a sleeve motor or am I looking at a complete rebuild? I will get a bore a scope and check before I decide what to do. Maybe I sho...

So I checked the #1 plug and it was fouled again. Checked all the other plugs and the plugs on the right bank had some fouling, the left bank just looked worn. Original plugs were replaced at 90 k and now at 134k. I replaced all the plugs, cleared the codes and went for a drive. Under load the cel f...

I pull a 19' cuddy that weighs 4200# on the trailer and I have no problems pulling up a ramp. I've got Yokohama geolanders that still have about half the tread. I don't leave anyone in the boat when pulling out. 4wd does help on a slimy ramp

From my experience there are four cats. Two primary at the exhaust manifolds and two secondary be hind the primary ones. To replace the primary ones generally plan on some broken bolts and studs The heat shield bolts on the primary cats are the biggest problem. But you don't need the shields. Use lo...

Front or rear cats ? The front cats are monitored by the ECM. The rears are not monitored. I've heard of replacement pipes or some owners just gut the second cats and put them back in

There is a purge valve on the right side of the fire wall
It really helps to have the rear heat on and the front end elevated when you burp these cooling. Systems

B pipe

I'm about ready to replace the secondary cats with a b pipe.
Anyone that's done this noticed an increase in power or gas mileage or just an increase in noise .

Het tech - you seem to know a lot about the pathfinders. My cats failed and now I burn about 1qt every 800 to 1000 miles. When the substrate gets sucked back into the cylinders does it score the cylinder walls ? Is there something I can do short of a complete rebuild ?
