Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

I run a bottle or two a year of Chevron Techron in all my vehicles.

Good to know it's not worth the expense. They were asking $185ish

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

Ha. Well it's a business. Gotta make money somehow.

Really appreciate the wealth of knowlege here, VStar.

I turned down a bunch of stuff that they recommended based on mileage because I do a lot of basic maintenance at home. I was intrigued by the fuel injector service, however. What are your ...

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

Thank you. So is that correct, there are three cam sensors + crank + 2 IVTs?

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

Got the vehicle back and it seems to be starting and running fine. I do have a question about how many sensors there are on a 2011 VK56DE. The invoice shows the following:

3 - 23731-4M50D Camshaft Position Sensor @ $116.06/piece = $348.18
1 - 23731-AL61D Camshaft Position Sensor @ $210.26
1 - 23796 ...

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

They came back and recommended replacing all 4 sensors and retesting (almost $1900)

Sounds like you think Phase and Crank sensors are the culprits and should start with those two before messing with IVT, correct?

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

Good information. Thank you

What would be the tell that an ECM/ECU is going bad -- what further info would you need to see in order for you to view that as the problem and not these two sensors? Just trying to get ahead of the conversation tomorrow should that be the direction it takes

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

Yea, modern vehicles and their associated electronics is not my area of expertise. Much more comfortable around old carbureted engines.

So in summary, I should request the phase (aka cam) sensor and crank -- just the two -- or should I request both "cam" sensors and the crank too, for a total of ...

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

Well they haven't come back and said for sure it needs a new ECM... yet.

However, in the event that they do say it's an ECM, what would be your advice -- tell them no, and to instead replace both cam sensors and the crank sensor instead?

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

Well now this is getting interesting.

Service writer just called and said they are still attempting to diagnose the problem. In fact, the technician was going back and forth with Nissan technical support for help on the codes. They mentioned on the phone the multitude of codes referenced in the ...

V8 LE front suspension -- Z1 Offroad offerings

Anyone use Z1 Offroad for front suspension parts, specifically on a V8 R51?

Ball joints on mine are showing signs of eventually needing replaced and research suggests doing the control arms units is the more worthwhile option versus just doing the ball joints alone, mainly due to the labor element ...

Re: Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

Service writer said they recommend replacing all three -- both cam sensors and the crank sensor. Will report back what the cost is. X-factor is shop labor cost.

Saw these on Z1 for reference.

Awesome. Thank you.

Found some threads on here about cam sensors that suggest replacing them in pairs is best practice.

Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights on -- P0340 code

2011 V8 LE.

Started the truck and drove about 2 miles and the dash lit up like a Christmas tree with three indicator lights -- the Service Engine Soon, VDC and SLIP lights all popped up simultaneously. Drove home, ran an OBD2 check and it came up P0340. The check engine light is still on but the ...

Re: Rear shock recommendations V8 R51

Some research suggests Bilstein, KYB (OEM manufacturer?) or Z1 are all quality options.

Not looking for a huge lift out of these, though I understand replacing sagging old parts may result in a modest lift. Any feedback on what to expect from which parts is much appreciated. Thanks!
