You should be able to drive in 4H all the time since its an open front diff. At least thats what i am under the impression of so correct me if i'm wrong. The owners manual states: Page 5-17 CAUTION Do not drive the vehicle in the 4H or 4LO position on dry hard surface roads. Driving on dry, hard su...

The curiosity is killing me! I have a 08 sold in Edmonton sitting in the driveway, however its -14F right now and I still have on my Spiderman pajamas (flannel, no feet). On second thought, I'll get back to you on this, lets say in June! LOL What about it Terry, how is the weather in Winnie? a bris...

Ok. Thanks for the pics, I see what you are saying now. My dealer (when I lived in Texas) told me that they were the same part number. Maybe check with a dealer in your area. I wonder... Did you buy your P-finder in Canada? Maybe there is a difference in Canadian and US models. Yes my pathy is a ca...

There is a cap for the rad and a cap for the overflow bottle. Which cap goes where? 1 cap is just that, a cap. The other is the pressure cap with spring assembly etc in it rated to 15 PSI. I just dont get it, both of mine have springs and have the same pressure rating. I have an '05 also. I asked s...

Its the cavitation of the oil pump. I really think Im going to try and use 5w/20 for winter since mine does the same sound when cold. Already using Mobil 1 5w30... i don't think 5w20 makes that kind of difference... Have an appt at the stealership on Tuesday next week, so we'll find out then I supp...

There are more than a couple of things that this could be but the two I would say; 1. Sounds like valvetrain noise which is common in very cold weather but should get quiet after the motor warms up. Its -33F here this morning and with a block heater mine still makes a little noise but not that much...

squeal/squawk on extreme cold startup

Good day.

Please see the attached video (i guess I could have just done sound, but oh well.)

Any ideas (if you can hear above the ticking of my cold engine!) what this could be?

Thanks

Re: How fast can you go in 4H?

Not sure who left the Pathfinder in 4H (my bro or wife) but I came back from vacation late last night and rushed off to work this morning. I didn't notice that the car was in 4H. I was flying down the Turnpike at like 85+ mph. Just wanted to know how fast can you go in 4H and if I did any damage? T...

Thank you Terry. I think we will go with the oil pan mount. Found a good heater pad for the oil pan at Checker Auto Parts here in Colorado for $15 including tax. I talked with some neighbors and they recommend it as well. Thank you for your input! -Dave I actually have one of those. Kinda half-a$$e...

Block heater is a more permanent solution, but only really necessary at -10C (14F) and below)

Battery blankets would need to be replaced every few years, but be cheaper up front. Your battery should be fine down to -40C (-40F) if its in OK shape.

I actually just changed the coolant in my '05 today, with 50k miles. The cap with the spring came off the reservoir, the radiator cap is just a cap. I'd be a little cautious with what coolant you put in though. I was going to use the typical Prestone but the guys convinced me to stick with OEM in a...

You should be fine, most antifreeze is all the same in retrospect. and only 1 qt added, I wouldnt lose any sleep. Well I checked it again today, and added a bunch more. I have never topped it off since we got the truck in August, and have done some heavy towing with it. I may start a new thread for...

Pressure cap should be on the radiator. Not the case! I just checked, and in fact the caps are not interchangeable. The pressure cap only fits on the overflow tank. Also, the manual states that the tank is pressurized. There are tabs on the caps of different widths which would prevent them from bei...
