No, I didn't see it there. I've searched everywhere I can think of on the internet to find out what this part is, but can't find any info. It's the only cylindrical vacuum device attached, vertically, to the back left side of the airbox, between the airbox and the engine. It is black with two vacuum...

I tried to insert a pic but couldn't and I don't have an account with a publicly accessible photo website, but my Pathfinder is a 2001.

Mystery Part

There is a cylindrical canister attached to the side of my air filter box with two vacuum hoses that attach to the top. What the hell is this thing and what does it do? Mine is broken where the hose attachments are, so I just coupled the two hoses. Is this a bad thing? I can't find answers anywhere.

About the fuel mileage...I have that same vehicle and replaced the front drive hub flanges with MileMarker manual locking hubs. It cost about $85 and only took me about 30 minutes to do the work (I ain't no mechanic). I gained about 15% in fuel mileage...a very noticable gain.

Intermittent starting problem

I've got a 2001 Pathy, automatic tranny, with about 140k miles on the clock. Randomly, the car will fail to start. Sometimes it will fail to turn over, and other times it will turn over but not fire up. I feel like this is either a sensor going out or a loose connection or bad switch somewhere. Like...

Canister mounted on air box w/ 2 vac hoses?

2001 Pathfinder with the 3.5L V-6 I've spent hours trying to figure out what the canister mounted on my air filter box is. It has two vac hoses going to it and the hose barbs have broken off the top of the canister. I just hose barbed the two hoses together for now, but would love to find out if the...
