Tonight I drover 120 miles flat, no issue. I came to the first hill, literally 1/10 of a mile up the hill, 4wd light and power loss. I'm going to have to trade it in. Where I'm coming from in Yosemite, I won't make it to a shop or dealership to get diagnostics run. I'm literally on the side of a CA ...

I was having a similar issue. Pulling ANY trailer. Aamco replaced the valve body and (since I have a new radiator) restored the trans cooler lines thru it and an external front-mounted cooler. Last week pulled my small pop-up Coleman Taos camper into the N. Georgia mountains with no problems. Take ...

Smj, you're saying this loss of power created a fault code that can help decipher the problem?

06 R51 dies while towing

I want to run something by you guys before I trade in my R51. I have a 2006, bypassed trans, I maintain all my own fluids religiously. I'm driving cross US, I've done 10k miles, much of it in mountains, towing a 5400lb gross trailer. About 5x in the last 2+ months, all while going uphill, the 4WD li...

Help on the road!

At 80,000 miles bought a 5500 lb trailer, changed trans and transfer/diffs and towed 5k miles, happy R51. Did a 2nd 4 qt transmission change at 85,000 miles. Last night going up a steeeep hill in 2nd gear and 2wd, 4WD light and service engine light comes on, engine continues to run but when I steppe...

Towing 5500# with 2006 R51 LE

Hey all, Just wanted to share my experiences towing with this truck after 1000 miles. I own a 2016 Jayco 23RLSW that weighs 4700 dry. We're towing at about 5500 or so. This far it's been a nice TV through some mountains. I'm headed from Philly to San Diego, so far I've gone to LBI NJ, Niagara Falls ...

You should be fine. Even though you over inflated it, you should see if airlift will help you out. You were right, airlift stepped up, but b4 that I drove from NJ to Niagara and noticed no difference without the air bags (probably because towing is so new for me). We also decided to use "avoid...

So I'm looking to get other suggestions as to what could be the problem specific to our trucks. It blew up on the exhaust side. Has anyone had blow outs due to heat? Did anyone think it necessary to install a heat shield on this side? Is it possible there was a burr on the springs? I have an email ...

I paid for a new set of bags. Airlift is going to mail me a new setup and I'll take them back to the store. Very nice company to deal with, they said it is likely the a manufacturer defect, shouldn't ever blow up except in extreme cases. Also happy to report the R51 just finished towing is first 100...

Thanks guys and sorry I didn't respond, we were practicing dry camping with no net access. So I greased the ball hitch, increased the tire pressure on the R51 to 40 and increased the airlift pressure to 40. But I think it was mostly the weight - trailer was empty when I wrote this. The dealer set it...

The maximum inflation is not supposed to exceed 35 PSI. It's in the instructions that came with the kit. The instructions also say 50-100 psi for motor homes. There's guys on here who run at 50 psi and I've never heard of them exploding. Plus, I feel like airlift would have accounted for an acciden...

airlift 1000 explosion

Got my 2006 LE all geared up and ready to pull my new 2016 Jayco 23RLSW. I put 250 miles on the setup and with every short trip I dialed it in more and more and settled on 40 psi as the perfect balance. Today I thought I was ready, which is good because we have 3 days booked in Niagara starting tomo...

BTW, OD was off.

Should VDC be on or off? It didn't seem to make a difference, I'm just curious
