Re: No tow/haul button…

Hi, I tow a 26' Jayco with a GVWR of 5500 lbs. Spatula is correct, don't overload your Pathfinder or trailer. You're vehicle's payload is on the tire size/inflation sticker. It varies depending on how each vehicle is equipped. Payload includes passengers, cargo, trailer hitch (a load leveling hitch ...

Re: What does everyone tow?

Thanks, that means a lot coming from you. I followed your 2008 build with a great deal of interest and envy. I admire your commitment to the R51 and like you (I think) I appreciate it for being the great sUv that it is - emphasis on Utility. I love driving it, smile every time I see it and can't wal...

Re: What does everyone tow?

The bigger hammer solution. LOL. The whole thing is a numbers game if you want to stay within recommended safety margins. I'll use the numbers from my vehicles as an example. Just take it for what it is, an example of what I did, not a model to be duplicated. My 2012 Pathfinder S 2wd, your numbers m...

Re: What does everyone tow?

How much affect a lift has on towing and handling when towing would depend on how it was done I suppose. Your tire size could be an issue then again it could be benificial. If your R51 was originally equipped with 245-75x16" tires they are 30.5" so 33" tires are the same as an 8% chan...

Re: What does everyone tow?

I'd like to see this thread continue because I'm still towing and always looking for more info and new ideas. My pathfinder is a 2012 S, V6, 114,000 (s)miles, radiator/trans cooler bypass, 265-70x16 tires, Air Lift 1000 air bags in the rear springs, Trail Ridge extendable side mirrors, otherwise sto...

Re: Pathfinder gear ratio

Thanks for the replies.

So does anyone have any real world experience with this theory? My biggest concern with this idea is running out of fuel because the tank is so small.

Re: Pathfinder gear ratio

I understand what your saying but I would have two sets of mounted tires. The smaller set would be used only when towing. I'm not talking 75+ mph driving. So when towing at say 60-65 mph on flat ground the increase in RPMs would be 200 or less and should require less throttle input and minimize torq...

Re: Pathfinder gear ratio

Thanks for the reply and link but not quite what I was looking for. I'm towing a trailer with a GVWR OF 5500#, TW of 600#, payload of 400#. The PF does okay around Florida because it's so flat but I'd like to start traveling further and will run into hilly country. I can mount LT235/65-R16C tires wh...

Pathfinder gear ratio

First of all happy holidays to everyone. I hope this finds you all and your families in good health. Prayers and good wishes to those suffering the dreadful affects of covid-19. Please try to keep in mind "this too shall pass". Have any members changed to 3.36 or higher numeric gears and a...

Re: Need help with towing

Hi Spatula, Did you find the problem with your Pathfinder? I leave an OBD scanner plugged in all the time so I can monitor various things as I'm driving. My truck is a 2012 2wd, my trailer is 4400lbs dry. Standard tire size 245/75x16 is about 30.5". My 265/70x16 and your 285/65x16 are both app...

Re: 2012 Pathfinder tranny fluid

Hi Terry, Thanks for the reply. I remember when I joined here you were one of the first to welcome me. I was impressed or should I say amazed at your rig. So naturally I thought of you when I bought the trailer. It's roughly 26' long, 8' wide, twin 3500lb Dexter axles, brakes on all four wheels. GVW...

Re: Cross country trip: AZ to NC

You have a 2005 Pathfinder with 191K miles, what kind of history do you have with it? Just from what I've read about the pre 2011 trucks I think you're wise to change the radiator if it's the original. If you haven't had it for all of it's 15 years I think it may be worth finding out. It could have ...
