Re: help with some P0420/430 cat codes

I have a suspicion that maybe some of the bolts on the cat are loose leading to a small leak. I'm able to log using my NDSII app and can see on the "AF Alpha" channel a larger than expected difference between the b1 and b2 readings, usually when coming off throttle. I'll have to dig into i...

help with some P0420/430 cat codes

So i've replaced my old 250k+ mile cats, also replaced all 4 sensors (those pre and post cat). I'm still popping codes, but it's a pretty repeatable pattern. If the car is cold - it'll throw a code within the first mile. If the car is moderately warm (like after starting up after eating lunch on a l...

Re: Time to break up?

i had a slow coolant leak cause by a failing o-ring on the water pump. There is a passage right behind the AC compressor where any coolant that gets by the first o-ring on the pump will travel and leak out the block. If you see any coolant on the driver side of the block or on the lower suspension c...

after removing the full glove box assembly (lower and upper) I removed the cabin air filters. The motor for the recirc door is on top and behind the unit when you are looking at it from the inside. I was able to move the door by reaching though the opening of the cabin air filters though. I had to p...

I'll have to dig around in there. right now the blend door works fine - but nothing happens when i push the recirc button (the LCD display changes, but you can't detect any difference in the air or hear anything happening).

stuck fresh air / recirculate door in HVAC

Does anyone know if you can reach that door or the mechanism without having to remove the full dash? I would like to just flip the door over to recirculate for the summer (AC). I'm hoping I can find a way to reach the mechanism from either under the dash, behind the glove box, or through the center ...

is it possible it's in the wiring harness to the coil? does the connector look ok? Everything would have been moved to get the new heads in, and probably settled back into position by now...

regarding the secondary timing chain shoes - I just swapped out the metal post with the shoe attached with what was in the car. the kit I ordered came with a complete chain tensioner so I slid the post with the shoe attached out of the assembly (there is a spring inside and it's loose, so watch out)...

Re: a timing chain story...

VVT is active across the RPM range based on throttle vice RPM like Honda's original VTEC or others. It turns on when coolant is above 130 degrees F or so and you can feel it smooth out. FSM test for VVT (and cam timing) is zero plus or minus two degrees at idle and at operating temperature, and zer...

I didn't take many pictures - but it's a pretty involved process. I found a great video on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j3uY3clWxFE here are the pictures I have: https://photos.app.goo.gl/SHkC9nu2dwkXgrHv9 you can see in this photo the o-rings. Look just to the outside of the main cam g...

a timing chain story...

my 2005 w/ 195k miles on it has been making quite a bit of timing chain noise for the last few months. I was positive I needed to do some work on it but was dreading all the labor to get it done. a few days ago, on the drive home from work, the engine starting having some real issues at idle and was...

center row overhead

I have a 2005 I bought used, and a previous owner installed an overhead DVD player. It doesn't work, and it's kinda ugly and i would like to remove it. I can't find any info on what was installed over that center row. Does anyone have a part number for a light that used to be installed in that locat...

Sway bar bushings

I'm guessing it's pretty common to have to replace the sway bar (anti-roll) bar bushings. Looks like mine are split in the center and I'm hearing what I would normally describe as CV joint noises but it's only when the suspension compresses. (I've seen the updated design with the split in the corner...
