I have an '08 SE with 150K miles on it. I notice a number of posts in this forum about timing chain tensioners and some noise from the engine that indicates their immanent failure. My truck does not make any noises that I would consider unusual. Can someone describe the sound of failed/failing tensi...

The airbags technically do not allow you to increase the tongue weight. They just help firm up the rear end when it is loaded which prevents sag. The rule of thumb for towing is 10% of the weight should be on the tongue. The Pathfinder can tow 6K# so the tongue limit should be 600#. To tow 6K# you'r...

I wouldn't complain if my R51 got better gas mileage.

On the road trip just before my repair, the best I could get was 18.5mpg. Just drove to Middleburg and back and saw 19.5..... 'Bout what I get on the highway unencumbered. I have found that the MPG calculation by the vehicle display can be almost 1 MPG off (either way) compared to calculating the M...

I got an air compressor that plugs into a 12v outlet. Cost about $50. Plus it's portable. I can use it on my other car or my boat trailer.

When I bought fobs off the internet it cost me $155 to get the dealer to program them. I went to the local locksmith to do it, but he couldn't get them to work and after a couple of tries said he didn't want to continue because of the risk of bricking the locking system which would require towing th...

Broken wire in the harness or pushed pin in a connector would be my first guess if your sure everything is connected properly. Perhaps a cable to some other unit is off as well/instead.

How durable is that plastidip stuff on wheels anyway? Watching the application videos gives me the impression that while it looks nice, I'm guessing that it'll get scratched up or peeled off kind of easily. Might be ok for road cars, but offroad, maybe not?

Re: Power sockets stopped working

I used a 12 volt tyre inflator from one of the power sockets, the tyre got to 29psi, the inflator started making a funny noise then went off, now the socket doesn't work, I tried it on another socket and the same happened, I have checked the fuses and they look ok, what else could it have done to c...

Re: What style Fog lights ?

I have now purchased two sets of eBay LED lights for my fog lights and they have lasted a year max, each. My question is, what type of bulb do you use for maximum lighting , in the stock fog light ? Halogen, LED or HID ? And what brand/model do you recommend? I travel back roads and need better fog...

No one has mentioned the domestics. I'm considering a GMC Acadia as the replacement for my 2011 R51 when the time arrives. It's nearly the same length and just a couple of inches wider (size does matter) and with the towing package will pull anything I have. I will say though I have not yet test dr...

What about the inserts that go into the running boards? When I took mine off, I found that some of the bolts had seized. Either the bolt would shear off or the whole insert would come out of the running board.

When I was shopping I found that in my area an 4Runner was pretty close to 2x the cost of a similar Pathfinder.
