Re: Final Summary of all the work + new parts on my '08 V8

The Moog springs are waaaay better than stock. I went from running 7-10 psi in my AirLift bags all the time to 0 psi except when I need them.

B25 Silverton Blue

Just dropping a note here for other owners of the best blue! Some time in the past, Nissan re-used the B25 code for Granite Metallic. So more and more when you order corrective paint, whether pens or bottles, you get a dark metallic gray instead of blue. This is true of both Nissan pens and other ma...

Re: KEEP YOUR PATHFINDER

I'm not sold on Ford quality, though. In my mind, if I'm forking out this type of money, I really have to think of spending the extra 3-5k on a Toyota or Lexus. Maybe something 1-2 years old even. But size, function, and what's available on the market and what fits your needs - impossible to ignore...

Re: KEEP YOUR PATHFINDER

I test drove just about everything last year...I need a similar cargo box for ~10 foot surfboards and XL mountain bikes. I don't "need" great 4WD but it sure has been fantastic to have a locking center diff and Michelin LTXs when its called for. Hard direct comparison because of how much w...

Re: Wind vs drivability

Changing the window seals is a minor PITA but worthwhile vs. trying to make old ones work. The fronts require removing the mirrors...I was able to do it with them hanging loose if I remember correctly. I seem to recall greasing the back side of them was the key to getting them in easily. There is lu...

Re: Wind vs drivability

Delrin steering rack bushings have pretty much eliminated this for me. The Pathfinder has a lot of sail area so it's going to get pushed around, and the give in the OEM bushings meant crosswinds could push it around. No more on my truck.

Re: Cerakote / Griot's Garage headlight restoration kit

You can take them apart. They are sealed with butyl rubber, so you will have to use your oven to both open and reassemble them. Youtube has a lot of good videos...you can search the forums including this one for the folks who have opened up their headlights to tint them, change colors, convert to pr...

Cerakote / Griot's Garage headlight restoration kit

Just thought I'd post about this. My truck has mostly lived inside since I bought it in 2009, so it was pretty easy to keep the headlamps cloud-free. I just hit them every now and then with my 3" orbital polisher and called it a day. Then last year as my motorcycle, surfboards, and bicycles too...

Re: Engine cooling fan clutch & overheating

For what it's worth, no one really reports consistent results with aftermarket fan clutches. The Nissan one will make the hovercraft noise go away. You should "hear the fan" but if its too loud, then the clutch is too engaged when the engine is cold. There's another Pathfinder in my neighb...

Re: Alternator questions

What't the average life expectancy of the alternator? Mine died at 185K km without any warning, no low-voltage light. It started with that the gearbox didn't shift, remained in the same gear. First I thought the gearbox died on me  . Parked the car at the shoulder and wasn't able to start du...

Re: Alternator questions

I'm the OP, this will be the second time I've changed the alternator in three months  I don't know what the rest of you are doing that makes it easy, but it was a little bit of a PITA to figure out how to maneuver it in and out of the frame through the wheel well. Everything else was pretty ea...

Re: Alternator questions

I kind of wish I took pictures of my original alternator. It lasted a good long time, but the sludgy coat of oil from the valve covers that I left unfixed for too long was pretty fantastic.

Re: Alternator questions

Yeah, by "remanufactured" I meant "the only alternator I could find in town at O'Reilly." I'm betting whatever Nissan sends me will be better. This one was whistling like a bird right away.

Re: Alternator questions

Aaaaand the remanufactured unit has lasted about three months. It never really stopped whining, and now sometimes it stops charging (battery light goes on, voltage gauge droops). I have a new one coming from Nissan, just need this one to mostly work for a few more days.
