With the front wheel jacked up, grab it at 3 and 9 o'clock and try to wiggle. If it clicks or moves its probably tie rods. Grab at 6 and 12, if there's clicking there it's a ball joint (the thing at the top or bottom that you circled and asked about). Both cases could also be a wheel hub bearing. T...

Good to know, that is re-assuring. I was freaking out if I had to change a bunch of components, but this gives me more peace of mind.

Front suspension clunk - front passenger side

I’ve been noticing a clunking sound coming from the front passenger side when I drive over bumps. Crawled underneath and found that the outer tie rod (which is a moog problem solver replaced by the PO at an unknown mileage) is wet - see picture. In addition, there’s an additional mount on the to...

Oh I don't know. I think timing was against it on one hand, as a "gas crisis" hit a few years after release. I picked mine up for only $2K more than a similar year XTerra in 2009, as everyone abandoned body on frame vehicles. But on the other hand, the cost cutting decisions by Nissan jus...

Why does the R51 get so much hate from reviewers?

I have put about 2.5k miles on the R51 thus far. Outside of the PO being morons who I’m pretty sure have never ever washed the car the entire time they had it (rust is turning out to be a real PITA on this thing!!!!! I got the rust on the rear quarter panels, cut new metal welded And fixed the rig...

Thanks for the link! Seems like the later years (2008+) have separate door trim part numbers for S, SV/SE/Silver and the LE. I tried to pull one at the local yard and sure enough, the wood trim is held by liquid nails/really adhesive glue. I also went back to get the clockspring and disappointingly ...

So I managed to get my hands on a worn heated steering wheel and heated switch. What I can't find is information on the part number for the clockspring. My understanding is that the clockspring has to be switched out as well if I wanted a heated steering wheel? If so, I am unable to confirm whether ...

Here they are Palmer! Exciting photo shots, at a gas station no less

1,700 miles thus far. Quite pleased with the purchase. Now if only I can get that heated steering wheel added

Interesting, I thought they were all part of the door panel. Would you happen to have a part number or a website where I can look up part numbers for those faux wood trims? I saw the chaps on frontier and x-terra forums doing the mod (well at least 3 of them). They have a semi decent write up. Somed...

No one?

Also, can anyone confirm that the door cards are the same between the Silver and LE, with little insert behind the grab handle being the only difference? I.e the faux wood insert that the LEs have on the door is part of the insert and is not a piece that can be added separately?

Heated steering wheel install

Has anyone here upgraded their lower trim vehicles to the LE steering wheel and added the associated circuitry to get functional heated steering wheel? My '11 Silver unfortunately does not have it and I would like to add it. I know some will say just upgrade to a LE, but LE's over here are at least ...

Just did this. Thanks smj for the write up.

I did it the first time with the paper clip in the back of the connector. Didn’t work.
Re-tried with a thin paper clip on the front of the connector and it worked. Had to drive around for a few mins though.

Finally got around to doing this.
The load ratings were equal to the Dunlop all seasons my Pathy came with.
Outside of looking a little skinny, the downsized 16†winter tires off my R50 work just fine on the R51

Non Nav to Nav unit?

I tried using the search box on the forum for this topic, but I couldn't find much information.
Are the factory HUs directly swappable between the non nav and nav units? If so, is my 2011 Silver Edition Pathy pre-wired for nav?

Interesting, I did not realize Japanese OEs used Pentosin. I plan on doing a fluid refresh next spring on the vehicle (front diff, rear diff, t-case and anti freeze) along with the spark plugs. I was going to use Zerex Long Life Asian (Blue) on the Pathy. Any thoughts on that? While I admit I have n...
