I just did my timing chain last week. It took me approximately 20 hours. My secondary tensioner shoes were wore all the way down and my main tensioner was broken. I got lucky. Now my truck is so quiet and runs smooth.

I finally changed out my Valve covers at 252,000 miles. I had quite a bit of leakage. There was enough to cause my alternator to burn out due to the amount of oil dripping on it. I just replaced mine last weekend. If your valve covers are leaking, that burning smell could be oil dripping into your alternator. That is what caused mine to stop working. On the bright side, I get to put new aluminum valve covers on tomorrow!

I was getting that one a year or two ago and I took the vapor canister off and cleaned it out with an air compressor. That fixed my issue. It was full of dirt.

I used the brackets from a rear hatch R51 and the struts. I used the front mounting points from a Ford F150 and drilled holes. I bought the parts from the local junk yard. I'll take pics later and post.
