Re: This is what my V8s oil looked like at 5000 miles

I always get in a muck over oil(s)! If the oil is dirty, it shouldn't necessarily mean anything, except that it is working? I thought this was the purpose of the detergents in modern oils. Perhaps the Max Life is formulated differently. It would be very interesting if you sent your oil out for analy...

Re: Alternator questions

I love Nissan parts. Tis why I don't hesitate in buying something (looking up the part) through Car-Part.com If your Pathfinder is 2008+ then it's most likely compatible with 2019 Frontier (or newer). You could grab a Genuine Nissan alternator, with less than 10k on it, for around $100. With warrant...

Re: Trying to ID Drivetrain Sound

Any issues with the transmission? Your last comment states that if you turn the truck off, the noise would still be there (can't be right...right?) If it's the driveshaft - simply remove it. Mark the positions on both ends. If it's isolated, then you have the answer. For me, I would remove the shaft...

Any members in Toronto or nearby

Up here in Toronto. I'm wondering if any of our members would know of a reputable independent Nissan mechanic? I seem to get the best results from Village Nissan, but they seem to be too busy to really dig deep or fuss over things like we do on this forum. Any leads or suggestions would be appreciat...

Re: Trying to ID Drivetrain Sound

With the windows up. When you start, do you hear a whirring sound inside the cab? Is the noise similar to let's say the pitch / frequency of radio noise? It goes up with engine RPM and then dies down a bit on the start of the car? When you place the car in gear, with the brake on, do you hear the pi...

Spring Installation Question (rear)

On the front struts, the notched end of the spring, slots into a notch on the strut - it has to point outwards (towards the wheel) when reinstalling the strut. For the rear spring, does this have to be the case? Should the end of the spring spiral (at the bottom), have to face outward toward the whe...

Re: Front Sway Bar / Bushing Question

Thank you for the insight, it is appreciated. I did inspect the bushing area, and it was quite clean, on the bar. Almost new. The previous bushings I had on it, a year ago (presumed Nissan ones), seemed a bit smaller and had a lot less rubber to them. Could just be the age. I recall vividly last yea...

Re: Auto Transmission Question

So I'v started back digging into this as time permits. This is some useful stuff in regards to the transmissions: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/2007-nissan-xtera-transmission-interchangeability.292615/#post-4809576 https://www.thenewx.org/threads/transmission-interchangeable.269398/ The ...

Re: Old girl suspension woes

Had problems with rear alignment for three years. Wore out tires. Last week, Rear: chopped out rear lower forward, and rear lower rearward control arms all 4 cambers seized. all new bolts installed. Front replaced all upper and lower controls arms from a 2019 Frontier. ~200 USD. Truck had like 10K o...

Re: Front Sway Bar / Bushing Question

Yep new ones ordered (MOOG) and will compare the fit to the brackets with the sway bar off.

I wonder if the brackets were bent to form the old ones, and I should order new brackets.

Re: Front Sway Bar / Bushing Question

I think the bushing came with factory grease. I've just pulled the bar out this evening, and there is grease there. But the fitting is very tight around the bar when installed. As an example, you would need a 3 lb hammer to slug on it, to get it to move. Really wield it. Previous to putting in these...

Front Sway Bar / Bushing Question

With new front sway bushings, should the sway bar still be able to move, and rotate when the links are not connected? My front sway bar does not move easily. Need to knock it pretty hard with a hammer to get it to budge... Is this normal? Bushings are "newer", replaced a year ago, and I th...

Re: Help removing rear shock bolts

Just commenting on your success.
Good that you got those off! What a pain this must have been.

What type of shocks are the new ones?
I noticed that the bushings are very different compared to the previous ones, in that the metal collar is less pronounced.
