Back to KYB

I'm not sure anyone would dare to do it, but I did. Original shocks were really bad, so I bought Bilsteins and had them on for about 15K. I just couldn't accept the ride quality with them. Dampening too stiff for my taste and I would avoid certain roads/routes because of it. Finished off the install...

Re: Exhaust Flange Bolts and Nuts 4.0

Well, no reason for a follow up. Bought the nuts for the rear cats and they are 14MM. Looks like whoever replaced the muffler system before I bought the Patty just put on 15MM. Get this. Paid $8.94 CND, for each replacement catalytic converter nut. I"m going to write the dealership as that is p...

Exhaust Flange Bolts and Nuts 4.0

Need to replace the studs / bolts for the connections at the rear cats. Purchased a Walker CAT and it did not come with studs / bolts to connect to the manifold or the rear cat. To make room for the new Walker, I had to unbolts the rear CAT connection to the rear exhaust. When I did this, the stud t...

Re: Has anyone done 4600 Bilstein front and rear?

Update Part 1. Front Suspension So. Lessons learned..... New front sway bar bushings - OEM. The sway bar, I could move it down, out of the way, by hand, when disconnecting the links. I thought that was normal...until I installed the new bushings. That sway bar will not pivot now with the new bushings...

Re: front struts squeak and creak?

Have to be careful with rubber. Some parts don't like certain lubricants. It could make it worse. I would think a white lithium grease might be fine, as you can spray it into crevices. I've used it for other squeaks. I think certain rubber it needs to be silicone based. Go to NAPA (call them...

Re: Has anyone done 4600 Bilstein front and rear?

I've done the Bilsteins front and rear. I have Yokohama Geolander tires. I was expecting much of these shocks, honestly. They seem to "crash-bang" on simple road bumps on my street at low speeds. On the highway, they ride very good, but all shocks should? I've gone over some good bumps on ...

KYB Manufacture Date

Where to find and examine the manufacture date of a kyb shock or strut?

The only thing I found on ones I ordered is (on the strut)
0E17.

The box has a number of codes on the outside - anyone know?

7F20
8E17
09814

Re: front struts squeak and creak?

Ball joints.

They squeak when worn out. Front is very noticeable.

Go into a drive thru, open the window and turn the steering wheel as you go through. Somehow the narrow space against a wall echoes noises very well, you can hear creaks very easily.
If you hear a creak when turning, could be them.

U Joint

Easy tip (for me). When driving look out , through your rearview mirror. If what you see is shaking, then suspect ujoints, as the whole car is actually vibrating behind you. You may be only feeling part of the vibration. I took my front driveshaft off and took a ride, and it was smooth. Just mark wh...

Quick tip. Make sure you have defrost mirrors! Depending on where the model was sold, it may not have them. You'll need them in the winter time and might have to retrofit it. Make sure you have a mechanic look over the truck. Perhaps find a specialist in the area the vehicle is being sold (ahead of ...

I tried the thinner, didn't work. Scotty Kilmer thing. Does it give a code for the misfire? I would think it should? Maybe check if you have a pending code that clears, perhaps. I like the idea of changing the plugs....it's simple and would eliminate part of some free testing / checking. I'm thinkin...

Catalytic Mix and Match question

I need to replace my driver's side front CAT.

Would anyone think of a reason that you can run two different type of cats, one OEM and an aftermarket Walker, for example?

Best results when "repainting"

2005 Patty has a serious problem of peeling paint. Need to repaint the roof and think about doing the front.. Are there best aftermarket ways to get a colour match apart from going to a shop...or am I best just to get an estimate and go from there. For the roof, I would think rattle canning it would...
