Re: Where under the hood is the heater inlet pipe?

+1 on that, I usually cut the small hoses at the firewall if the fitting is brittle. They're like a fragmentation bomb when the plastic is far gone.

Re: Anyone running a ram air intake?

Maybe this is a dumb question, what happens when its raining. Wouldn't that force water into your airbox? Ram setups usually have a hump or incline to prevent direct water intrusion, but it will still make the incoming air extremely humid in a rainstorm. You get spatter caught in the airstream, and...

Re: Nissan Xterra Coming Back

Have y'all noticed the new Ariya isn't even out yet? That was supposed to be last spring, then fall, then... Same old supply chain, chips and plastic. It's getting worse and not better. The supplier for the primary chip I use in my widget side-business is only running die for it once a year, so arou...

Re: Don't drive nissan anymore.

Welcome! If you're not also a member of NicoClub then you should be, and get a little education about CVT transmissions before you buy. There's a simple app called CVTz50 which can save you a lot of headaches when shopping for a CVT Nissan.

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

Those temps don't sound like the cats were fully lit, they need to be for a fair test. Dunno if that's F or C either, if it's C then it isn't terrible. Even if it's F I'd try some Cataclean because they're still working some, just not well. EDIT: Oops, missed the F. My bad. I'd still try some Catacl...

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

You can try Cataclean, the stuff works pretty well for extending the life of dying cats which aren't quite dead yet. The only thing besides the cats themselves which (rarely) causes P0420/P0430 to occur in isolation is exhaust leaks somewhere right near the rear sensors. I can't recall how far back ...

Dunno if they were ever specific to here, but Mother Nico has them.

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

It's just the front cats, and on an '01 they're separate from the manifold, not conjoined like, say, a VK56. For Cali you need CARB-compliant cats, which have a special number stamped on the casing and are usually half again the price of Fed cats. The ones I'm seeing in RockAuto are showing $350~400.

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

Hmm. What is a reasonable cost to get new cats installed? How might I save some $$$? Is it DIY-able? DIY-able if you have good tools and good skills. Probably 1.5 to 2 hours per side in a shop, the 2WD's aren't terrible but 4WD's are a bit of a pain. Give yourself a day jacked up in a driveway. You...

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

When those codes are by themselves, the cause is always weak cats. You may get some extra miles out of them by installing spacers on the rear O2's, but be very circumspect about that. You're basically disabling the early warning system, and a cat that melts can be sucked into the exhaust valves with...

But you also told us how strong the CVY is in all post 2017 Pathfinders. Yes we get the frequent fluid change but lets not put too negative a spin on what this man likes. I do not wish to discourage people from buying an excellent choice because of enthusiast proclivities. Not discouraging anything...

PS - Nico has complete factory manuals for almost every USDM Nissan from the late 80's to 2016. Here's the link to the Engine Controls section for your ride:

Re: Intermittent Starting Issue

This all assumes you've already popped a coil and a plug to make sure you have spark and that the plugs aren't soaking wet. Nothing Nissan will start when flooded, and of course you need good spark. On Nissans the ignition timing is determined by the crank sensor (CKP), so if the coils have power bu...

Re: Intermittent Starting Issue

See if the security lamp is lit solid when it does this. If so, it could be that your key is getting weak in its old age, or it could be a malfunctioning ECM Relay. If the sec lamp isn't lit then the P1615 is incidental or possibly "past" and isn't causing the problem. The list of things t...
