Re: Speedometer needle under pin

Thanks for the input. I ended up trying a magnet and voila! You have to play around with the placement of the magnet but once you find it, the needle just spins back around like magic! And it’s working good as new.

Re: Speedometer needle under pin

I’m not sure the diagnosis mode is an issue. All meters jump when I follow the procedures. The problem is the speedometer needle has gone all the way around and now cannot jump past the pin at the 0 mark.

Speedometer needle under pin

I had to jump the battery, and apparently there was a spike. The speedometer needle appears to have gone all the way around and is now resting under the pin. All other gauges plus the odometer are working fine. When I drive, the speedometer needle just stays at 0 since it cannot go past the pin. I’v...

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

More info. I read online that the temperature right after the cat should be significantly higher than right before the cat. If not, the cat definitely needs to be replaced. After car was fully warmed up, my cheapo infrared temperature gauge tells me the temp before the front cat is 150 degrees F and...

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

When those codes are by themselves, the cause is always weak cats… So if you can afford new cats, that's the right answer. Thanks for the purchasing tips. Before I pull the trigger on new cats, I could use a little more guidance. Do these two codes typically show up together? I would think the two ...

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

Thank you @palmerwmd

When the rain stops I’ll get under the car to take a closer look at my exhaust system and figure out what I should be looking for.

This car has only 160k miles and is otherwise in good condition so I don’t think it’s yet time to give up on it!

Re: P0420/P0430 diagnostics

DIY-able if you have good tools and good skills… My go-to is usually AP/Eastern Catalytic, decent price, good quality, and (very importantly) they usually fit right without any screwing around. Thank you @VStar650CL. I apologize for being high maintenance. Although I’ve done a wide variety of repai...

Hmm. What is a reasonable cost to get new cats installed? How might I save some $$$? Is it DIY-able?

P0420/P0430 diagnostics

Got both codes. “Catalyst system efficiency below threshold” for both bank 1 and 2. No other codes. What steps should I take to diagnose? I believe the fact that both codes showed up without any other codes should eliminate some possible causes while increasing the chances of others. I’m hoping of c...

Listing this for reference later! Re: New year, new-to-me Pathy

Except the occasional seal there is very little that goes wrong with these. I know valve cover gaskets universally need replacement. What other seals should I watch out for on these Nissans? When you do the tranny fluid use a careful method.. just drain the fluid (when its hot and you row it thru a...

Re: New year, new-to-me Pathy

Please show us some pics and tell us whats on the truck? 4x4 or not? What shape is the interior/exterio in? SE 3.5L 4x4 Southern California car so very little rust. Interior is clean for its age. Fading exterior to be expected. I believe all stock and no accidents. Uh… but I can’t seem to figure ou...

New year, new-to-me Pathy

New year, new project. Just picked up a 2001 Pathfinder with 160k miles from my friend. Plan is to use it as a city/highway daily driver, occasional light off road, maybe 10k miles per year. Hoping it’ll last me another decade or so. Friend tells me it was routinely maintained but it seems like not ...
