Not sure if its relevant, but did you get an alignment done recently? The steering angle sensor is supposed to be recalibrated after an alignment and if they didn't do that if could be providing incorrect input.

Is there enough room for a chisel and hammer to split the nut or cut it in half with a Dremel/grinder. That’s beyond the scope of my knowledge, but I think it would require offset bushings and I personally don’t like offset bushings.

Your milage may vary of course but here is my alignment numbers. You can see that it wouldn't hurt to have an extra 1 to .5 degrees of Camber. but it drives well like this.
