06 Pathfinder LE ATF fluid type

I initially put Valvoline DEX/MERC but thinking I screwed up there. If I did a drain, and refill with Valvoline Maxlife DEX/MERC, would that mess things up?

Re: 2006 Pathfinder LE rough shifts/downshifts

Maybe you want to try a trans shop, because that "mechanic" is FOS. The RE5R05A has been CAN-programmable since '04, and there are even aftermarket programmers available so that trans shops and rebuilders don't need to come to me for a repro:

Re: 2006 Pathfinder LE rough shifts/downshifts

We get an hour for most ECU repros. They rarely take more than 30 minutes, but only if the Parts Dept doesn't make you stand in line for another half waiting to look up the ROM ID.

I just talked to my local Nissan dealership’s service department, and the mechanic said that TCM ...

Re: 2006 Pathfinder LE rough shifts/downshifts

There are probably 2~4 different TCM firmware packages for every year of the R51 depending on equipment and options, so there's a good chance firmware is causing at least some of your issues. That won't generally cause codes or dash lights unless you put a 4WD TCM into a 2WD, then the TCM will ...

Re: Hard shifts/downshifts + cold/cooler engine temp gauge

It's not complicated but 'stat isn't in an easy spot, maybe a 2 hour job with proper tools. Be prepared to jack the front end to bleed the air out, and either have a no-spill funnel on hand or be prepared to make a mess.

It's more common for 'stats to lose their wax and stick closed. But it's a ...

Re: Hard shifts/downshifts + cold/cooler engine temp gauge

'Stat stuck open would be a good guess, and yes, trannies like to be warm to work right just like engines do. That's entirely plausible.

Thanks for the reply! Planning on replacing the thermostat tonight. Any insight on how long of a process this may take though?

Also, what causes a thermostat ...

Hard shifts/downshifts + cold/cooler engine temp gauge

Newer to this forum, but I posted the other day regarding the same issue at hand: hard shifts. I haven’t had much to work with in diagnosing the cause of concern because nothing’s throwing any codes currently. However, I’ve recently noticed my engine temp gauge never exceeds approx 40% and is also ...

2006 Pathfinder LE rough shifts/downshifts

I drive a 2006 Pathfinder LE (2WD w/o OR package; 154k miles). A few weeks ago, I installed a “new” valve body (used from another 2006 Pathfinder LE). It solved the initial issue I had at hand, but I’ve began noticing some hard gear shifts (particularly downshifts too). I had flushed my ATF during ...
