Re: Dead alternator...?

I removed the alternator and it's definitely toast. Burnt and barely spins. Have the new one on order. Thanks for the replies.

Re: Dead alternator...?

I don't want to drive it with that burning smell going on. It would be nice to know if this is a normal way an alternator can fail so I could be confident the smell is coming from the alternator and not somewhere else.

Dead alternator...?

Hello all, Today leaving the house, the Pathfinder went into limp mode and has what sounds like a whine coming from the alternator along with a burning smell. Multimeter shows that it is running on battery power only, around 11v when I checked it, and not the 13-14v you'd expect. I swapped batteries...

Re: Engine Fan running

I finally got around to turning those fan blades. They were behind a shroud and I did not want to slap them too hard. but a moderate push on a fanblade turned the fan about half of a full turn. Thank you very much for doing that. It's hard to know for sure, but I'd say that's about what I'm getting...

Re: Engine Fan running

I had my cooling fan running even after getting off the road on non-aggressive driving. I'm wondering if you notice that your temperature might peak for a few seconds - and then go back to normal? This happened to me, and I only saw it when stopped a drive-thru for coffee. It spikes for a couple of...

Re: Engine Fan running

Hmm...that's interesting, thanks! When I spin the fan cold or after its been driven it feels like it has the exact same tension. So maybe it is shot. I'd be really curious to know what a good one feels like.

Re: Engine Fan running

Can someone tell me how many turns you can spin a good fan clutch by hand on a cold engine on your r51 Pathfinder? Or how loose the fan feels when cold when grabbing the fan near the airbox? Thanks.

Engine Fan running

Hey all, my 06 engine fan seems to be running all the time. On starting it roars for a few seconds than goes away as it should. But after getting hot it seems to stay on. Scan tool shows a reading around 200f. Is that too hot? Wondering if the fan clutch is bad or if the engine is running hot. On a ...

Re: squeek on acceleration

Replaced front u joint closest to transfer case. Jack up front wheels. With ball joint press - remove u joint caps on the transfer case side first. . This lets the shaft move side to side. Spin front tire by hand to get desired ujoint position. Then remove two caps on the shaft side. Seperate and in...

Re: squeek on acceleration

Found bad u joint front shaft at transfer case. The one at the front axle seems good. Thinking of replacing just the bad one for now. Anyone know if ots possible to replace the one at the transfer case without removing the whole shaft? There is a pretty fat crossmember there, I wonder if it would be...

Re: 4lo wont engage - SOLVED

Always, Always, Always check your fuses first  . The last couple of days werent a complete waste of time I guess. I now have a much better understanding of how the 4wd system operates and how to check switches and relays for continuity. My problem in the end was the blown 20 amp fuse next to t...

Re: 4lo wont engage

Thanks for the post smj. I checked with multimeter per fsm the relay and the wiring to the relay along with the hi and lo relay and wiring and it all checks out. Also pulled the neutral 4 lo switch and it checked out ok too. I am now thinking of pulling the transfer motor to check that. My question ...
