The bottom line is if it's making the timing chain "whine" or not? Obviously, I can't hear it for myself. I also don't know if your mechanic is familiar with the timing chain issues of the VQ40DE. Best advice I can give you is to educate yourself about the problem with the information tha...

You can get aftermarket part "kits" for a lot cheaper than the dealer parts. Or, you can get dealer parts from places like NissanPartsDeal.com. You could look up the parts on such a site (which are genuine Nissan parts) and print out the list with the total and maybe negotiate a better pr...

Without removing the front timing cover, the only way to know if the upper timing chains need replacing is the giveaway "whining" noise that has become familiar to many VQ40DE engine owners. To me, the noise is similar the sound of an old, Ford power steering pump that is on it's way out....

2006 LE Timing Chain?

Took the Pathy to the dealer for a second opinion and while there they noticed a "buzzing/whining noise from the timing chains" and recommend replacing. I've not noticed the buzzing/whining (other than my own  ) and the quoted price was a bit high ($1960). Is there any way to really k...

Yes - V6 4.0 original owner. Passed emissions test with the new cat and ox sensor. Just worried about damaging other components going without the heatshield.

mine has 3 bolts that hold it on...I have heard of the bolts breaking off and many folks have to cut the shield off to remove it. I sprayed mine with PB Blaster and my bolts came off. Thanks Dawgn86! Going shieldless for now. Will see how that works out. I do have the old shield and it definitely l...

2006 Pathy - Cat Converter - Heat Shield Needed?

My mechanic replaced the passenger side Cat Converter and Oxy Sensor. He said the Heat Shield was soldered on and would need to be soldered on again but he couldn't do it and referred me to a place he's used. Another mechanic as this place said no need to replace the heat shield as no rubber or plas...

The left bank was replaced by Nissan under extended warranty at 84,000 miles. I replaced the right bank with a Walker converter at 155,000 miles. Then, my left bank started triggering a P0430 catalyst code intermittently at 170,000 miles, which I haven't gotten around to changing, yet, now at 182,0...

I would only replace the converter that failed along with the upstream oxygen sensor on that particular bank. I've used Walker catalytic converters and I haven't had any issues with them so far. The genuine Nissan converters are ridiculously expensive! Thanks SMJ - I was thinking about the same thi...

Thanks Dan - I'm curious at what mileage did you have to replace yours?

2006 Pathy - Cat Converter?

Just had my 2006 Pathfinder LE at my trusted shop for "Service Engine" light at 207K miles. The shop tells me I need the Right replaced and might as well replace both Cat Converters because it will likely go out next. Also replace both Oxygen sensors. Altogether they are quoting $1900 for ...

HELP: 06 Pathy How To Replace Windshield Washer Spray Nozzle

Hello, My Driver side Wiendshield washer spray nozzle is damaged and I need to replace it. I know I need to remove the cowl (?) that sits the bottom side of the windshield (windshield replaced recently and suspect that has something to do with the spray nozzle damage). Is it a simple job to remove t...

I am sure SMJ will chime in soon esp since he has an 05 or 06 Pathy with somewhere around 150,000 miles and he knows the truck inside and out. That being said the motor will keep going esp if you take care of it I have read many posts on several Nissan forums now where people have put many thousand...
