I found my pressure cap on the reservoir, and just a thin metal cap on the radiator.

I actually just changed the coolant in my '05 today, with 50k miles. The cap with the spring came off the reservoir, the radiator cap is just a cap. I'd be a little cautious with what coolant you put in though. I was going to use the typical Prestone but the guys convinced me to stick with OEM in an...

Mine started doing it last year around this time and the deal replaced them under warranty. If you're out of warranty, buy the lift supports online at Courtesy Parts or enissanparts...I haven't looked but I can't imagine that they're difficult to install.

TPMS was standard on the '05 SE. To verify for yourself, deflate one of your tires to ~25 PSI and drive around for a couple of minutes, making sure that you get over 20 MPH or so. You should get a yellow idiot light and an extremely long and loud alarm.

If you haven't already, sounds like it's time to lay under the truck and look for loose suspension parts - anything that looks like it might have shifted or be out of place. Can you tell if the thud is coming from front or rear? When does the thud happen - after you come to a stop or sometime before...

I've never heard of changing a windshield as a maintenance item...maybe increasing following distance will help avoid the sand and stones kicked up. 3 years, 47k miles on my original windshield and I don't believe there's a single mark.

Goodyear Fortera TripleTread. Best tire hands down for dry & wet grip, handling, hydroplane resistance, and smooth/quiet ride. Can't yet comment on longevity, but 10k on these tires and I still don't notice a difference. I've had the Michelin Cross Terrain's on another vehicle and they are no co...

Thanks for the info on the different chemistries...you're probably right in that the risk to the engine isn't worth the few bucks I'd save...Nissan coolant it is. I might consider the Prestone kit, but I hate the idea of cutting into perfectly good heater hoses...I think I'll do it the tedious way o...

Engine coolant replacement

My '05 has about 47k miles on it, and it's a little early but I'm starting to think about engine coolant replacement (due at 60k). Called the Nissan dealer parts dept. about getting the vacuum/refill tool mentioned in the service manual (J-45695) on pg. MA-15. The basic idea is that you drain the fl...

Like any new car, the first time doing the oil change is tough, but after you learn the techniques it becomes easy. Put some muscle into the drain plug - you might have to put it up on jack stands to get a longer wrench underneath. Make sure you're turning the plug counterclockwise to remove. It may...

I have the Airlift 1000 and still really happy with it after about a year or so. I've never had any leak problems, and the pressure is always right where I left it...I think I've only added air once since installation. I can't speak at all for the Firestone kit, but I'd recommend the Airlift bags an...

I've always noticed a little bit of pinging at certain load conditions, no matter what octane fuel I used. If it's pinging during normal cruising, then it's not good and you should have it checked out. If it's pinging on mild to moderate acceleration, it's probably normal. Best fuel efficiency is ac...

Sorry about the fire...at least the truck was largely unharmed.

It's not likely that enough smoke got into the air filter to foul it if there was no air flow. But just pull it and check it...replace if necessary. 5 minutes and $10 tops.

Just my opinion, but I don't really have a problem with it. In the 35 zones you can lock in cruise control at 41 and stay in overdrive. With a shift point any higher you'd miss those opportunities, but it does pretty much necessitate using cruise control. Of course, I'm in Florida and it's completel...
