Yeahp, that's the thread I was thinking of. I just forgot that it was on another forum. I may try that bit with the magnets actually because for the life of me I can't seem to fiddle with the clip enough to get it to work right.

No that's not it. The spring which controls the door, and prevents it from swinging open when the car is unlocked, fell out of place. I can not figure how to re-attach the spring to allow the door to function properly.

Yeah I was rather pissed off. I took mine in for a 60k check up and tried to get them to help me out with the fuel gauge because I had that replaced 2 months prior to hearing of this.
