Not sure if I want to remove the bypass even with this.

Hypothetical situation - you undo or never did the bypass and the rad starts to fail at the end of your warrenty. Then just after your warranty it dies and your left to front the bills for a new transmission.

Now that would suck!

Heat damage to transmission will lead to a re-manufactured one anyway.

Of course anyone that can keep their transmission from excessive heat with the bypass has no need for the radiator cooler anyway...

Make sure the atf fluid is topped off.
My transmission sometimes shift hard, and when I changed the fluid, discovered it was a bit low, and the problem went away after filling it to the correct level.

I don't think the light is of any use, because some ppl had their transmission well past 200 degrees without the light coming on.

tech i think you misunderstood my post. i was asking if the radiator only cools the coolant and warms the atf, right?

I think the only times the radiator is not able to cool the atf, is when the AT isn't generating much heat or the cooling capacity of the radiator is maxed out. Otherwise there ...

You arent losing that much cooling capacity by omitting the radiator. If you dont believe me or anyone else, then put a temp gauge on it. The numbers dont lie. 185 or below is very optimal ...

i'm sure the radiator atf cooler is meant for cooling rather than heating. Because how does it provide heat when the thermostat is still closed? Yeah, good luck with that.

Whereas no one has reported overheating problems after doing the bypass, there are more than enough reports of problems with the faulty cooler for those who did NOT bypass.

Another solution is to replace the radiator with a high quality aftermarket one. The possibility of contamination will be much less than using nissan's defective radiator, while still retain stock cooling capacity.

Just wanted to point out that the internal atf cooler in the radiator is actually quite effective at cooling the atf fluid according to this guy's data. For those that tow and off road heavy with the bypass, should install another atf cooler.
