Crap. I logged in to post a question about a high pitched whine and found this thread.
Mine happens similar to whateveryone else described (louder when accelerating and goes away after a while) and I only have about 63k miles!

I would like them to operate the same as the dome lights. I will try to splice it to the dome light and then run another power line to the 12v plug with a switch so I can turn them on at will. It is well worth it. I have a black interior and the bright white LEDs are great! I bought a 4 bar kit (12-15 leds per bar) with a control box from SuperBrightLEDs.com. The kit is great quality and works (I hooked it up to a 9v to test it out). It is very bright and exactly what I want, I just need to know what wire to splice into.

Unfortunately it is not under warranty and it did do this same thing prior to the 60k service.
I was thinking it might be Ujoints but maybe that would be continuous instead of intermittent.
