I guess in a sense we have been talking about the same thing. The bottom line is the setup between the V8's engine, transmission and rear end are its limiting factors.

The gear ratio in a vehicle’s differential. The ratio expresses the number of turns required by the pinion (which is attached to the output shaft of the transmission) to turn the drive axle one revolution, i.e. 2.73:1 means the pinion must turn 2.73 times to turn the drive axle once. A higher number...

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that there are differences between the V6 & V8 other than just engines that affect the towing. You would have to agree with that! Just look at the specs of the two transmissions. They may have the same factory code but they are geared different and this wi...

I think you are all forgetting the importance of the transmission in towing. I cannot believe or assume that the V8 has the same tranny as the V6. Gearing becomes a big issue also and the amount of them. I know that the V8 tranny also has 5 gears but I must believe that it is a bigger transmission a...

I would have bought a diesel in a heartbeat. I'm not sure why they are all dragging their feet but they are right that the US consumer will not buy a diesel as much as European consumers. In Europe more than half of all vehicles on the road are diesel and now that the price of diesel over there has ...

Well, I have decided to go with a K&N oil Filter (I found them for less than $10 on Amazon.com which is what you would pay for a Mobil 1 filter) and I will use Pennzoil Platnum Full Synthetic 5W-30 which is cheaper then Mobil 1 but seems to match its quality. I will start with intervals of 5000...

Smarty, sorry but here in the US we do not have any diesel operated Pathfinders. They have them in other parts of the world like Europe. Most folks on this site are from the US. Good luck with finding the answer you seek.

Guys! Easy solved problem. I have the Bully Foot Step ($40) in the back on my hitch and it is about two feet wide sticks out like a mini bumper. People nail that thing all the time in the parking lot and they never leave a scratch (only paint) and I never get to see what their car looks like (but I ...

May prices be as they are! Your gas mileage is mainly based on what you tow and not so much what you tow it with. Of course the smaller V6 vs V8 plays a roll (especially the torque numbers) but diesels sometimes are as bad as gasoline engines when towing. It has a lot to do with aerodynamics and it ...

My Maintainance Book tells me to do oils changes every 3750 miles. It does not give me any other options using synthetic oil. Where did you get this information from, skinney2?

Well here is another question then. If I go with sythetic could I get away with buying SuperTech WalMart brand synthetic (made by Pennzoil/Quaker-State) for 5k intervals? Or would a best brand like Mobil 1 be more advisable?

I would only run my PF about 8000 to 9000 miles a year and change my oil maybe every six months or so.
On occassion I will pull our Travel Trailer in the Summer and add an extra 1000k miles.

What Motor Oil is best for the Pathy?

I have now researched sme information about what motor oil to use and there is a lot of conflicting info out there. The one that makes the most sense is to use the recommended oil from Nissan's manual, which simply is SL certified oil with 5W-30; 10W-30 or 10W-40 weight pending on climate zone. I re...

Very interesting thread. I have the 2011 SV and my millage is quite nice at 17.2MPG. Of course, we all live in different areas of the country and have different roads we travel at different styles of driving. But I must mention that in city traffic I have found by downshifting to 4th and not allowin...
