A full Trans service is kind of touch and go if the fluid hasn't been changed in over 100k, usually for high mileage vehicles I do a pan service in which you drain the trans pan by removing it and replacing the filter and gasket. It doesn't replace all of the fluid; it leaves about 3qts. behind whic...

I've seen this before with other car manufactures where the trans fluid hasn't been changed when it goes bad. It can cause the trans to jerk upon acceleration. Usually if you get a fully trans flush it will be ok; the torque converter usually won't jerk if it's going out.

That sounds right with the labor time. Most mechanic won't repair the calipers; they replace them instead because it's safer. The wheel bearings aren't too bad to do but they can be tedious at times. The overall price for the job you have before you seems pretty standard.

The bearings on any of the accessories could be going out, also the idler pulley can cause this noise if the bearings are going out as well. I had the same noise and I had to take the drive belts off and manually try to spin the pulleys one at a time. Mine was the idler.

The starter is pretty easy to do. Remove the power cables and the two mounting bolts and with a little finesse it will come right out. I had to change mine out in a parking lot and it only took around 30 min.

Running premium gas can also drop your mileage. The higher the octane rating the harder it is to burn. I use regular old 87 and I get around 19 mpg around town.

This is good help cause I have a '97 Pathfinder and it has the same problem. I can't track down which bushing it is but I'm thinking about replacing all 5 links.

Suspension Help

I have a 97 Pathy with 166k on it. It is in great shape for being a Chicago vehicle. I was wondering what a good lift kit would be for it. Also the bushings in the rear links are getting worn out, should I replace the whole link or press in new bushings.
