Consumer Reports just did a study on car waxes a couple of months ago. Of those tested, Nu Finish car polish was their top ranked product in terms of ease of application and longevity.

If the JVC KD-X50BT deck is what you installed, I, personally, would leave the factory amps and just upgrade the speakers. If you were installing a top shelf, several thousand dollar sound system, upgrading the amps would be recommended. The JVC KD-X50BT is a solid deck under $200 and should be a ni...

UPDATE: Had the tensioner bolt break for the primary timing chain (I think the person who put the updated upper tensioner shoes on before I purchased it may have overtightened it), so while I had it apart, I installed my new radiator. The radiator, itself, was fine, but it is a real pain to remove a...

I don't remember the R51's having steering stops to grease like the older Pathy's. I'll have to look next time I'm under my truck!

It's a "liquid tank"...serves the same purpose as an accumulator. Either the tank was made defective or the high pressure side went over the limit. I would, though, think the hose would blow out before the tank, if that was the case. Whoever charges the system will have to keep an eye on t...

Make sure it's the manifold gaskets and not the manifolds themselves. The right side manifold was particularly known for cracking and an updated manifold was made available. The manifolds can be removed without removing the cylinder heads. The manifold is removed with the precat attached and from th...

In general, I follow the manufacturer's guidelines for oil and filter replacement. My only "addition" to that is that if the manufacturer recommends oil change intervals of 5000 miles or more, I use synthetic or semi-synthetic oil. In my R51, I replace the oil at the factory specified 7500...

The primary tensioner got special ordered and back-shipped but finally arrived, but tensioner bolts didn't show. I noticed the bolts for the upper intake collector were the same as those for the tensioner, so I used them as I had to get the job done. I installed temporary bolts (same size, slightly ...

Yeah, that's the liquid tank for the A/C system, which is the system's filter. Have to admit it's the first time I've ever seen that happen! The reason you probably thought it was coolant that you thought you saw was because Nissan installs green dye in the system from the factory. What you saw was ...

Radiator R&R

I recently replaced my radiator with an aftermarket unit while I was working on my timing chain. All I can say is what a pain in the butt! For those that haven't done one, the radiator has two side brackets mounted on it which also have the radiator mounting pegs. The bottom of the bracket have the ...

I can understand his frustration and anger. I think the design of the R51 was good but the execution of actually buiding them was terrible. Cheap parts is a good part of the reason. One of the reasons that Datsun and Nissan were so good at one time is that they used quality, Japanese parts and they ...

Without an oscilloscope, it's hard to tell. An oscilloscope lets one view the spark patterns of the individual cylindars and, if one knows how to read them, can tell if the ignition system is operating as it should...as well as a number of other things.

I don't think there's an access panel for the fuel sender on the R51. It would be nice if there was, like on the R50's.

The one thing they mentioning already about the new Pathy is better gas mileage. Can't complain about that! It really is a nice vehicle based on what I saw of the Infiniti "sister" to it at an auto show. BUT, I whole-heartedly agree that it shouldn't wear the "Pathfinder" badge. ...
