Re: What are some of the better airfilters?

Personally, I think the genuine Nissan filters are the best; they also have their Nissan Value Advantage filters that cut the cost a couple of bucks. That said, I usually use Denso, Mahle (which I wouldn't be surprised if they made some of the OE Nissan filters), Purolator One or AC Delco, which is ...

Re: So I checked my airfilter today... - PSA

That's typical for the air filter to get dirty just on the one side; it's the way the air is directed. Some have tried the "air box mod" where they cut away the plastic duct extension inside the box, but I've never heard of any real benefits afterwards and would advise against it. The air ...

Re: Horn switch worn out

All of the horn issues on the R51/D40/R50 Nissans have been due to bad clockspings. You do NOT want to cut open the air bag module! If it's the contacts in the module, I would highly recommend replacing the air bag module. Hopefully, that's not your problem!

Re: Stmble on a slight hill

You may find that the OE sensor is Hanshin, who also makes a lot of OE Nissan sensors and coil packs. In my experience, Hanshin brand parts seem to be more failure-prone than Hitachi and Denso. You may find that the cam sensor you remove is the later, metal type sensor that Nissan currently uses, wh...

Re: From R51 to WD40; life must go on!

Sweet ride! You're right, I don't know why they didn't make more Xterras in that blue. They're gorgeous, but I think I've only ever seen two of them. The only one I ever actually worked on was a repaired rollover that somebody stripped half the airbags out of and sold to a poor but witless buyer --...

From R51 to N50; life must go on!

So, recently I posted some pics of my beloved 2006 Pathfinder LE that was crushed like a bug by a fallen pine tree: https://i.imgur.com/SXj6Xwsl.jpg After doing a lot of searching, I decided to bite on a 2012 Nissan Xterra S for $10,500 with 158K miles on it: https://i.imgur.com/RKgeWO5l.jpg https:/...

R.I.P. my 2006 Pathy

There are times when the Car Gods speak and say it's time to say goodbye to a beloved ride! About a month ago, my 2006 Pathy LE tagged a buck on the right corner. While the insurance company totalled it, I decided to keep it and the $2220 they gave me an fix it myself. https://i.imgur.com/bwphVqrl.j...

Re: Rim Downsize, is it possible?

It's not about the engine, but brake disc/caliper size on front axle. If you have 320 mm discs front, I think 17'' is the smallest size whjeel that fits. But if you have 296mm discs, then 16'' wheel will fit, too. You are correct! I don't usually consider the European variants of the R51 when I ans...

Re: 92 Pathfinder

It was not uncommon for the hydraulic lifters to tap on these engines, but even then, I don't recall ever seeing one fail to the point where it caused a misfire? Even still, that or a broken valve spring would have shown up in the compression tests results. It's possible it could be a bad fuel injec...

Re: Is there a way I can determine if my transmission has been replaced?

You could always get a CARFAX report on the vehicle to see if it's been replaced. That said, just because it's original compared to have been replaced doesn't necessarily mean it's going to stand up any better to making performance improvements to the engine and/or more aggressive driving. The RE5R0...

Buck me!

So, driving home around 10pm last week when a buck crossed in front of me, tagging my right corner. Now, i wait to hear if the insurance company will total it or not?

Re: 2008 Passenger side cat removal

If you want to save the manifold heat shield and reinstall it on a V6 R51, you have to unbolt the motor mount and raise up the passenger side of the engine to get it out in one piece. Broken bolts are not uncommon; they should have used 8MM bolts instead of 6MM. What many do is leave on the manifold...

Re: Oil Leak at the AC Compressor?

If you are referring to the mounting bolts, then, no, they do not go into oil galleries. Most likely source would be a leaking valve cover gasket, but not the only possibility.
