Re: The EASIEST and most TROUBLE FREE R51 Pathfinder lift??

The front is usually not a problem lifting. The rear, because of the independent suspension setup on the R51, is the problem. If you go too high, the camber cannot get adjusted to spec during a wheel alignment; usually 2-inches is the highest you can go to keep it in-spec. I haven't been paying a lo...

Re: Nissan Part Trickery with Body Mounting #'s

"Hydraulic" would indicate there's some sort of mechanized wizardry built into the mounts where the body bushings go into which I've yet to hear any youtuber mention. Going to guess it's a Nissan marketing ploy full of BS. Hydraulic motor mounts have an internal cavity inside of them fill...

Re: V8

I saw a V8 R51 for $3500 in North Carolina on Facebook Marketplace a couple of days ago. I think it was near Raleigh? It looked in pretty good shape as far as the pictures.

Re: New Valve Covers

Nissan never made a VQ40DE valve cover in aluminum or metal; they are all plastic. Mitzone has plastic valve cover kits for $65-$70 that include both covers with seals and gaskets, oil cap, PCV and bolts, so replacing them is not a huge expense parts-wise, if you go that route. They are pretty good ...

Re: Z1 upgraded ignition coils

IMO, the Hitachi coils from Rockauto.com are the best bang for the buck at around $34 each. Hitachi does make a lot of original equipment parts for Nissan, from alternators to ignition components to even water pumps. Hitachi coils may be an upgrade over what comes in the VQ40DE from the factory, whi...

Re: Front wheel bearing 4wd vs Awd

4WD and AWD front hubs are the same. RWD hubs are different in that they don't have a hole through them for the outer CV joint shaft. Timken makes the OE hubs for Nissan and you can get Timken wheel hubs from Rockauto for a lot less than from the Nissan dealer.

Re: J-48761 Timing Chain and Tensioner Work Coming

The part you mention on the ground cable is a voltage sensor. The ECM monitors the voltage to control the charging system through the alternator. It allows the alternator to charge as needed rather than constantly charge, which saves a little gas.

Re: J-48761 Timing Chain and Tensioner Work Coming

Thanks! I guess it's been awhile? I spend most of my time at thenewx.org since purchasing my Xterra. I was having trouble signing into my thenissanpath.com account for awhile, so I just didn't bother after awhile.

Re: New Valve Covers

Mitzone makes pretty good plastic valve cover sets with gaskets, cap and new bolts. They tend to run in the $65-$70 range for both covers in a set. They also make aluminum valve covers, but I've heard mixed reviews on them. I've purchased two set of Mitzone valve covers and have had no issues.

Re: J-48761 Timing Chain and Tensioner Work Coming

One thing I would recommend replacing while the front cover is off is the oil galley cover plate gasket on the front of the rear timing cover. Z1 Off-road sells a kit with improved gaskets and new bolts. The cover gaskets tend to blow-out on these engines and cause low oil pressure at idle and can c...

Alloyworks All-aluminum radiator-cap question

Has anyone purchased the Alloyworks all-aluminum radiator and installed it on their R51 Pathfinder? The radiator is nice, but the cap they supply is incorrect for our vehicles. It has a 16 PSI rated cap with the spring and plunger on the bottom of the cap. As most of you know, it is the coolant rese...

I cleaned-up the old bolts and re-used them. I put some anti-seize on the bolts in case I have to remove them again, someday.

Re: New Sludge Question

According to the Nissan parts catalog, the part numbers are different for the valve covers for the 95 Pathfinder VG30E and a 2001 Frontier VG33E (I had to use Frontier because a 2001 Pathfinder has the VQ35DE engine). All are shown as discontinued by Nissan. You could try Car-part.com to look for a ...

Re: Where under the hood is the heater inlet pipe?

For my Xterra, I went with Dorman # 626598 outlet side hose @ $30 from Rockauto and the inlet side hose I got for $42 w/ spring clamps from Z1offroad.com, which has a bleeder: https://www.z1offroad.com/z1-products/z1-off-road/z1-frontier-pathfinder-xterra-vq40-billet-heater-hose-inlet-p-18561.html?l...

Re: what do folks think of this upgraded heater hose assembly?

It won't work on the V8 (#92408-ZS20A). It's only for the V6 R51 w/ rear HVAC. I'm not sure if that's the same as the one another member tried; he said the hoses on the bottom came up a little short. I also would have preferred that they use constant tension clamps like OE rather than worm gear clam...
