If the frame is not rusted through then I would find a good shop and fix the body. Then you could sand and repaint the frame or pay a shop to do it. Just be happy you don't have a Toyota Tacoma! Hear in Western Massachusetts we use a special brine on the roads it is said to be 15 times more corrosiv...

Dirty air filter?

Is it just my V6 or have others noticed over the years that the air filters on the V6 R51 seem to last a long time and don't get to dirty? Maybe it's from the stock air box air going threw the fender before reaching the filter?

If it was not hard to drop the oil pan I think after several short oil change cleaning runs I would drop it again and do a full clean out.

Wow! So bad PCV, coolant mixing with the oil? Or neglect from past owner? Anyway it sounds like your cleaning plans should fix the problem over time. Run your cleaner mixed with oil like trans fluid or some say Marvel Mystery oil works too and make a few highway runs should clean up.

If the body, frame and transmission are in good shape then I would get a good used motor or even spend the $ for a nice rebuilt one.

..........a cylinder leakdown test would tell you if there's leakage between the valves & heads without going to the expense of the repairs you mentioned Exactly! Don't order anything untill you find out how the compression is. If it has no compression and it also need the complete timing set i...

Rats!!

So today I opened my hood to add some washer fluid and I noticed a great deal of small animal food and droppings on and around the battery! It must have just happened since about two days ago I did my usual weekly oil and collant level check and I did not see anything then. Anyway I vacuumed it all ...

Kilaman wrote:Nissan stealership quoted me $2500 just to fix the gasket on the rear timing cover. Any other repairs (chains, guides, pulleys) are NOT included in that quote. So $2500 just to change an $11 gasket!!
It sounds like they don't want the job. I would shop around.

So I was wondering with you Pathfinder owners does your significant other like your Pathy? My wife has mixed feelings on my R51 sort of a love hate thing! She loves its capability esp transporting my son and his hockey player friends and gear. The 4x4 is great. It does not have a backup camera and s...

So it's 5 deg F outside here at my house in Western MA tonight. My R51 resides outside I keep my 2013 Mustang in the garage and my wife's Toyota occupies the other spot. If it's in good shape other than the trans I say keep it. Bless, you, Kestral, that is EXACTLY what I am struggling with. Ne...

. So far, about 1/2 quart over 750 miles. . While this is more than these engines would normally do it still works out to 1 qt over 1500 miles. well within acceptable range by yesteryear standards. VQ37s were known for this issue when Nissan went with looser rings in the horsepower wars of the late...
