Thanks for the feedback. I got a quote from my neighborhood mechanic (used him for years with all my previous cars) and he quoted me WAY less for parts and labor than the dealership (no surprise). But, he quoted me $90.11 for a replacement belt (OEM Nissan). Does that sound right? May get it done n...

if your belt is aftermarket, replace it with the oem nissan belt. theres been some issues with aftermarket belts and the grooves on them making noise on the pulleys, even if new

Radiator failure: the statistics

I've been looking into this for a while now. Trying to figure out why there is such a big difference in the number of radiator failures between 2005 and 2006/2007 years. Specifically, the 2005s having the highest rate of failure. This cant be due to the age as all have approx. same milage, and you d...

can you take your radiator caps off and check for any oil residue on top? you would usually see the oil in the radiator easier than on the tranny stick

I think the hotter your temps are, the sooner your oil change intervals have to be. http://www.digi-panel.com/trannyoil.htm and also http://www.txchange.com/heatchrt.htm

do you have any temp readings when driving in the city, or during traffic (no towing)?

I got this suv used with 156k miles on it. original radiator.. hoping that it would've leaked by now if it was a faulty unit... The radiators of this vintage were very poorly manufactured, to put it mildly. If you want to gamble and lose it all ($5-7,000. Very expensive & complicated transmissi...

question re: radiator leaking into tranny problems

for those of us who havent done the radiator bypass yet, has anyone considered putting a lower PSI radiator cap, say 13psi, to reduce the amount of coolant getting into the transmission in CASE it fails? not 100% sure what the pressure in the tranny line normally is, but i assume at idle its around ...
