Thanks to both of the two that replied. So first, I did go to Autozone as underword1001 wisely suggested and pulled the error code. It's P0340: Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit. Most likely solution: Replace camshaft position sensor (CMP). The Autozone guy suggested I check the engine oil. Now I kno...

Engine turned off at 25 mph.

I have a 2005 LE 4x4 with 194,000 miles. Tranny/radiator bypass was done at around 110,000 miles. I've had zero issues for 5 years--60,000 miles at least. No major repairs ever. So today, I'm on my normal commute and as I slow down to make a right turn the engine cuts off at about 25 mph. I lose pow...

Hi, I don't have any pics but the install was simple. No drilling. I removed the lower cowling. It look clean--doesn't protrude out the front at all.

Well, I do have a leak somewhere...it's dripping onto the ground. Oil is looking good. I'll monitor it. I filled it a week ago and it's still visible at the top of the radiator so it's not a bad leak--One drip every 15 seconds.

Where is my coolant going???

I have an '05 with 172,000 miles. I did the coolant/tranny bypass around 120,000 miles. Never had an issue with it. Don't have much in the way of issues at all actually. A few months ago I noticed that a fan would turn on not long after the engine was turned on...like an extra cooling fan. I thought...

I do like the info I get off this forum. I trust the regulars on here more than I ever will a mechanic. But sometimes it's too much info, you know what I mean! :) I golf and ride street and dirt bikes on the weekends. I don't mess with my PF in my free time. In CA I think the O2 sensors are inside o...

Thanks for the prompt answer. The codes are P0420 and P0430. The mechanic in this video suggested putting a gallon of lacquer thinner into a half take of gas and driving for 30 minutes at highway speeds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5icTmYItwiE He claims this can clean much of the jumk out of the ...

What causes catalytic converters to "go bad"?

I have a 2005 PF. I'll hit 140,000 miles sometime this week. The check engine light has been on for a couple of months and I can smell the excess fuel when I back into the garage and park. The diagnosis is that the two front cats need to be replaced. In CA that's anywhere from $2100 to $2500 parts a...

Thanks guys. I figured it would not be enough info to make an educated guess. I called both Autozone and O'Reilly's. Neither can or will diagnose the error code. The guy at O'Reilly's mentioned something about it being against California statute for them to do so. So I'm stuck doing it myself or jus...

Check engine light at 137K--excessive gas smell, any idea?

Hi, I have a 2005 4x4 SE. My check engine light started coming on intermittently in Dec. at about 130,000 miles. I did nothing to rectify it. It would come on and go away for a few days at a time. Then the interval would be a week or two on and off. Now, 6 months and 7000 miles later it's on and has...

I have a 2005 and I average 13-14 mpg. I live in CA so we have strange gasoline here. The computer indicates that my average speed is 30 mph, this is almost always the case. Purely highway driving I can get 17-18 mpg. When I'm on other states my mpg increases by 2.

PF cooling fan turns on after 1-2 minutes of idle. Normal?

I have a 2005 SE 4x4 with 133,500 miles. Under normal driving conditions the temp needle is pointing in the 3:30 or 4 o'clock position (1 o'clock being hot, 5 o'clock being cold). I've noticed lately that after a normal drive in average weather if I let the vehicle idle for about 1 minute the coolin...

My climate control sounds like a hamster.

It's a strange title, I know. I generally use the auto-climate. When I turn my 2005 PF off I hear strange noises coming from behind the AC/heater unit. It sounds like a hamster digging in a cage with wood chips. It also sounds like small electric motors turning on and off. Maybe there are some flaps...

Sorry, once I got this fixed I hadn't checked back. You guys are right on the money though. The shop in San Diego that did the work underquoted me. The guy did in fact base the quote on the warranty estimate of work not the "reality" estimate of work. I payed $576 when the real price shoul...

List of the common defects, issues, repairs for 2005+ PF

Can we please compile a list of the common defects, issues, repairs for 2005+ Pathfinders? I'm mostly interested in the issues that can affect all (or at least 80%) of North American PFs. I'm aware of the following: 1. Fuel Sending Unit (inaccurate gas gauge). Fix: replace it. 2. Coolant leaking int...
