Re: Who has the highest miles? Post miles & service history

212K: Replaced my dead cat yesterday. Well...Nissan did and gave me a great deal on labor. It took them two days on the lift to ease the bolts apart and several broke anyway (this thing has spent half its life on the east coast), confirming this was not something I wanted to do in my garage. Among o...

Re: POR-15 on Random Things

Reality is modern HSLA steels are very resistant to rust-through. That helps a *lot* more than people realize. I have lots of surface rust but very little that looks like the textbook case of rust on other steels (referred to here as "steel") which is linear penetration over time. Frame an...

POR-15 on Random Things

I am starting to attack the rusty spots on my truck, which began life on the east coast. I am about to do all-new brakes and braided stainless lines, and had ordered some red POR-15 caliper paint. So I tried it on the tow hook, which is basically pitted out rusty iron: https://hosting.photobucket.co...

Re: Nissan Fluids Or Aftermarket

LOL, I had them do the same and they said the same. But now everything on the front of my engine except the power steering pump is new.

Re: Nissan Fluids Or Aftermarket

Its the V6, it was super noisy so I had to have the timing chain guides done and got a pittance from the manufacturer (there was a schedule to cover some of the cost). Does the V8 have the same problem? Did it sound like a vacuum cleaner? Was it the recall for the timing chain and tensioner? Root c...

Z1 upgraded ignition coils

Not a long post here - I installed these, and yes, you want them :-D https://www.z1offroad.com/z1-products/z1-off-road/z1-vq40de-high-energy-ignition-coil-pack-set-of-p-21759.html At 211K miles, my truck is idling a little rougher than usual. And I had two coils fail last year (aged out...truck star...

Re: PRG motor mounts

Well...I have some good news for you then, some of my vibration was really just aging ignition coils. I pushed the button on Z1 upgraded coils, installed tonight, and poof...engine is smoother across the RPM range again. There is a bit more vibration at idle with the PRG mounts but it's not the irri...

Re: Loss of heat stopped at idle.

There is a booster pump for the heater circuits on the firewall, just to the inside of the steering column. It's on the line that takes hot coolant off the driver side of the engine and routes it to the top of the heater inlets on the passenger side. I don't think I've heard it make noise but it is ...

Re: Second vehicle...

Realized I haven't updated this in a while. Got a bit more to do, but I have nearly fully resurrected my 2002 since the people I sold it to left it outside in the east coast rain...a lot. - New or repainted body work - Polished and restored light fixtures at both ends - Cerakoted plastic trim...

Re: SIEMED Fog Lights - I like them

I have all-LED turn signals from not-fly by night Amazon companies. They have built in or inline resistors so there's no hyperflash, and red behind red is way brighter. But...some brands work and some don't, and the same brand may not work next time. YMMV, I keep regular bulbs in the truck just in c...

Re: Where under the hood is the heater inlet pipe?

That's Plan A! Don't know that I will sell it this year, but it will be a pretty good deal for an older truck. Among other things, everything on the front of the engine except the steering pump is less than three years old, and that includes the timing chain and guides. And I've replaced a lot of th...

Re: Where under the hood is the heater inlet pipe?

A heavily discounted new radiator, to not much more than it might cost me to have a local shop cut out the existing drain plug bung and weld in a new one, etc. if it goes that far. I have a Duralast from Autozone in there now. I intended to have the CSF fixed so I could put it back in by summer, but...

Re: PRG motor mounts

Revisiting this one in 2023. I noticed my passenger side motor mount looked like a mushroom, and my truck is vibrating at idle a bit more these days. I thought "surely not..." but then Googled around and saw it had melted for some other users. I suspect we all did not re-install the Nissan...
