In-out isn't what you're looking for, you're looking for loose clamps on the shafts or bad u-joints, anything that can make it jump out of position rotationally, not longitudinally. Loose splined-clamps will not be obvious from just jostling or pulling on them. The torque applied by the steering whe...
The Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) is keyed to the shaft at the steering wheel, so if any of the couplings between the wheel and the rack slip, the SAS is thrown out of kilter. The ABS knows from the wheel speeds when the vehicle is going straight and which direction it's turning, so as soon as the sha...
That's not alignment, that's something shifted in your steering or suspension. First thing to check is the splined couplers on the steering shaft. If one of those gets loose then the angle of the wheel will change every time it jumps splines (which will usually happen when you cut to the lock). If t...
As long as the Water Cock is working to allow coolant flow through the heater core, it will be fine. You don't need airflow in the cabin to bleed the system.
VQ40's can sometimes get wonky leaks at the back of the upper oil pan or inside the valley that are very hard to find. Invest in a UV dye set and put a few teaspoons in the oil, the dye won't lie. Unseal that raggedy notch in the bellhousing, too. That's a drain, it isn't supposed to be sealed up.
Good to hear. Most of Nissan's blanks and switches are more stubborn than that, prying usually just breaks the pawls. Nice to hear you don't need to break anything on the old Pathies.
The FSM will tell you to pry it out with a "suitable tool" lol. The problem is (especially when they've never been removed prior), often they're so brittle that even the most cautious methods won't get it off in one piece. You're right of course that some minor modifications plus a little ...
.... oh, I think I see what you mean now.... The ol' Reach Around. So take off the cover below the steering wheel and reach around to pop out the blanks (?) No, I thought you meant the switch bank to the left of the wheel. But what you said may be the best way to try to reach those. Unless you repl...
IIRC there are pawls on the back like most other Nissans, but the lower dash is very easy to take loose. Remove the left kick panel (1 screw), then there's a screw on either side at the bottom of the lower dash panel. Once those are removed, the whole panel just pops loose. Then you can relieve the ...
Just make sure to lube the new o-rings, sliding them in dry is always a mistake. Use either PAG oil (preferred) or vaseline, don't use any sort of penetrating oil.
If you use a cap kit like the one I posted, you don't cut the lines, you disconnect them where they attach to the front system at the passenger side firewall. Whether you want to cut and remove the rear tubes is up to you. If you use individual caps that require cutting the lines, you need to make s...
PS - The only cheapo DIY's I've seen that worked long-term were both done the same way. The lines were cut, filled with a "firm" RTV like Permatex Ultra Gray, then squashed flat and bent back on themselves to form a permanent seal. However, you need to make sure the problem isn't the o-rin...
They're o-ring fittings, you don't want to try to make your own cap. There are block-off kits all over eBay and Amazon. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185974718251
