Fronts are loaded and ready to go, I have just been super lazy about this with travel and other projects. Going to try to install these with the stainless braided hoses in the next few days.

Re: Who has the highest miles? Post miles & service history

I took my truck in for a clunk I suspected was a front UCA ball joint at 212K, a week before a 1,500 mile road trip around California. Asked them to look around at everything. Now has a new front right wheel bearing (only one that had ever been replaced, at around 120K miles...), new front LCAs, and...

Small orbital polishers

Discovered these are now ubiquitous, and I am super impressed. I have a 3" and 6" orbital already, but a.) they tend to fling polish pretty far and b.) they are overkill for minor corrections, etc. The new school battery powered ones with 1" and 2" wheels are legit. Here's the on...

Re: POR-15 on Random Things

Here come the brakes! Still have some zinc-stripping to go on the rear calipers but the fronts are almost ready. I did some touch ups past this photo but they are mostly red. Not sure I would go the zinc-stripping route again...there were some spots that seemed to want to reject the paint badly even...

Re: POR-15 on Random Things

For brackets (rear sway), I've had tremendous results with Krud Cutter Rust Remover. Not sure what this stuff is made from, but you can soak small pieces in it for a couple of days, cleans down to the pores without raising a finger, and leaves a Superman rust preventative coating on it that looks p...

Re: Engine Mount Replacement

Worth mentioning my power steering is the only thing on the front of my engine that has never died and been replaced, and it shows no sign of doing so anytime soon. If yours is vibrating more with new bushings, could be something else going on. Mine is buttery smooth and Delrin is pretty close to a ...

Re: Engine Mount Replacement

Only thing I can think of is maybe your mount was so blown the engine was moving laterally; the two things aren't related. The stock steering rack bushing shapes explain a lot of why these trucks have vague steering feel from the beginning: https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/e185/txnavy/IMG_2018...

Re: POR-15 on Random Things

Got distracted replacing a disposal. But, here is a zinc coated, reman caliper bracket on the left, and one I have stripped of zinc with my Dremel and a wire brush on the right. https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/e185/txnavy/A74CF336-B547-4A27-82E1-6165CA3A35FF.jpeg?width=960&height=720&...

Re: POR-15 on Random Things

Update us on which you ended up using for calipers. I'll be painting my new calipers some time this spring as well. Leaning towards POR-15, just because I could do successive coats over time without the limits of a can of activated epoxy like G2. But...going to do a brake fluid test at some point f...

Re: Who has the highest miles? Post miles & service history

212K: Replaced my dead cat yesterday. Well...Nissan did and gave me a great deal on labor. It took them two days on the lift to ease the bolts apart and several broke anyway (this thing has spent half its life on the east coast), confirming this was not something I wanted to do in my garage. Among o...

Re: POR-15 on Random Things

Reality is modern HSLA steels are very resistant to rust-through. That helps a *lot* more than people realize. I have lots of surface rust but very little that looks like the textbook case of rust on other steels (referred to here as "steel") which is linear penetration over time. Frame an...

POR-15 on Random Things

I am starting to attack the rusty spots on my truck, which began life on the east coast. I am about to do all-new brakes and braided stainless lines, and had ordered some red POR-15 caliper paint. So I tried it on the tow hook, which is basically pitted out rusty iron: https://hosting.photobucket.co...

LOL, I had them do the same and they said the same. But now everything on the front of my engine except the power steering pump is new.

Re: Nissan Fluids Or Aftermarket

Its the V6, it was super noisy so I had to have the timing chain guides done and got a pittance from the manufacturer (there was a schedule to cover some of the cost). Does the V8 have the same problem? Did it sound like a vacuum cleaner? Was it the recall for the timing chain and tensioner? Root c...
