i replaced mine along with the end links. the new ones dont have the slit in the middle. The slit is on the side so you dont get the separation.

Did most of you go with the powercore filter or the paper/oil? I was cleaning my filter today and noticed that the box is warped on the engine side, meaning the lid is not flush. I'm betting that at some point of my ownership, someone checked the filter while doing the oil and didn't get the lid on...
