Re: Splash Gaurd at Oil Filter

I believe you're looking for a 64838-3JA0A. For some indecipherable reason, the parts catalog always puts those in the hood ledge diagram and not with the inner fender:

Re: J-48761 Timing Chain and Tensioner Work Coming

One thing I would recommend replacing while the front cover is off is the oil galley cover plate gasket on the front of the rear timing cover. Z1 Off-road sells a kit with improved gaskets and new bolts. The cover gaskets tend to blow-out on these engines and cause low oil pressure at idle and can ...

Re: Timing Chain Replacement

Replacing the water pump along with the chains is a good idea on any VQ. The job is doable but difficult with the engine in. The rear cover is an engine-out job but isn't necessary just to replace chains. The rocker covers do need to come off for chain replacement, and on a '13 new ones and a fresh ...

I can't speak to the mechanical aspect, but if it does fit in the hole then it should work fine. Electrically they're identical.

Re: J-48761 Timing Chain and Tensioner Work Coming

I've never seen one jump if there were no oil problems in the cover and it was dry-cranked first. Watch your oil pressure on a scanner and keep dry-cranking for 15~20 seconds after it maxes out. Then install the fuse and let it fire.

My Mistake!!

This fella found it in a Nissan Frontier, but it's my mistake.

Not the PNP, it's the stop lamp switch. Claims no codes, etc. Broken tail lamp.
Some (but not all) of the conventional tranny TCM's do the same thing. That guy's Frontier is evidently one of them.

Re: 2012 Pathfinder losing power under acceleration: V6

It's not the PNP, it's that the TCM's on all CVT Nissans look at the brake lamps and positively refuse to accelerate if they think the brakes are applied. The Versa bubble cars, which are infamous for crappy taillamps, actually throw a code over it if the reverse and brake circuits get crossed by mo...

Welcome!

Love the username, I'm a Jersey boy that wound up in Arkansas myself. I'm officially a "damn Yankee" and not "just a Yankee", I'm never going home. The lack of salt is the least of it.

Re: J-48761 Timing Chain and Tensioner Work Coming

That sounds entirely possible. For years Nissan had a relationship with Kent Moore for special tools of all sorts, but then KM got bought up by SPX and SPX got bought up by Bosch, and who knows who makes anything anymore. The only guys I know about who are still independent are Midtronics, they make...

Maybe they don't want Emperor Trudeau getting his hands on Nissan tools....
Hmmm, or come to think of it, maybe he already banned them....

Oddly, I could not register an account - as both website links have a bug in it - in ordering anything to Ontario, Canada. (every US State and every other Canadian province was there)

Re: J-48761 Timing Chain and Tensioner Work Coming

Zip ties have always been my best friends when doing timing chains on any vehicle. Strung around both sides of the chains and pulled tight, nothing can move or jump. Plus it pulls everything out of the way for working with the tensioners. The one thing you positively need to remember is pulling the ...

Re: Odometer Display Disappeared

I don't recall ever having a Pathy cluster apart, but most of those LCD displays are connected to the mainboard with either ZIF connectors or soldered pins. When they fail, it's usually a problem with the ZIF being dirty or unseated in the former case, or a broken solder joint which can be fixed by ...

Re: Passenger Airbag Warning Light on or off?

ASIST only shows two recalls on the '06's, the Crash Zone sensor and the driver's bag emblem, and neither one affected operation of the PABI. The R51's never got the P7318 recall which affected the Bag Brain, that was reserved to Titan-Frontier-Xterra. So there's really nothing you could have undone...
