My 2006 V6 valve cover gaskets are leaking ( have been for a year or so ) and I am going to look at doing this job myself. The PF has 180k miles and plan on putting new plugs, PCV and hose while doing this. Also a new intake plenum gasket Should I plan on new valve covers as well? Plan on using all ...

both of my VQ40 engines in PF and Frontier seem to do that occasionally.

I just drained and filled the PF and replaced the thermostat; looked like a slow leak was occuring around the hose to thermostat.

The Frontier rad was low on coolant last weekend; took about a quart to bring it back to full.

SMJ has a great write up on draining and refilling the coolant and gives good details on the "burping" of the air out.

has the coolant been drained and filled lately?

I just did my 2006 and replaced hoses and thermostat. Took awhile to burp out the air in the system, even while on ramps and incline. Not sure if this is any help to you or not, but wanted to throw it out there.

I found the problem.

The black plastic ring behind the control had split and didnt allow it to change the settings.

A little super glue fixed it...working like new again.

2006 Nissan PF

AC and heat works good, but the fan speed dial will turn, but not increase the fan speed. It is a digital readout.

I can cut on the defroster and it begins on high fan speed.

Anything behind the dial that could be broke or slipping?

Thanks! job is finished! only used gasket and snugged the bolts good. did it up on ramps and an incline..was blowing cold air out of the vents until I realized I still had the AC on :oops: no visible leaks anywhere the air did get warm after about ten minutes...I added some to the resevoir and backe...

just left the Nissan dealer..got the hoses, thermost and gasket.

two more quick questions if I may:

does the gasket need any RTV sealant? It seems to be a metallic gasket

any specific torque on the thermostat bolts when replacing?

Thanks SMJ...my PF is 12 years old..never had hoses or thermostat replaced. Would you recommend doing this while the radiator is empty?

I know there is a post somewhere on this forum with very good directions on the drain and refill of the radiator coolant, but I cant seem to find it.

Anyone have it handy?

mine has 3 bolts that hold it on...I have heard of the bolts breaking off and many folks have to cut the shield off to remove it. I sprayed mine with PB Blaster and my bolts came off.
