Re: Cam Shaft Seal Grooves - Please give advice!

You might try using some emery cloth to clean up the end of the camshaft before you install the seal. Since you have the rear timing belt cover removed, it's also a good time to replace the coolant bypass hose behind it, but if you do, get the hose from Nissan as the aftermarket's just don't seem to...

Re: Cam Shaft Seal Grooves - Please give advice!

I know of the seals you are talking about but I'm not aware of any for the Nissan VG engine. As far as the Redi-sleeve, the ones I've used required removing the camshaft from the cylinder head to install, but that was a very long time ago and maybe they're updated the design since then?

Re: Bulb for shift indicator

The bulb # is 2723 or Nissan # 96942-EA600. Sylvania 2723 is sold in most auto parts stores as a twin-pack for $5.99. The Nissan 96942-EA600 costs about twice that, but it includes the socket with wiring and terminal pins as an assembly; you have to remove the wires from the harness plug and then in...

Re: Oil leak = Tune Up Time

Fortunately, the valve covers for the 4.0L aren't that expensive. I got over 225K miles on my two R51's and they haven't leaked, so far...knock on wood! So, it's common enough that we know about them, but nothing lasts forever!

Re: Oil leak = Tune Up Time

Spark plugs are correct. To replace the spark plug tube seals, you need to replace the entire valve cover, itself. Generally speaking with Nissan, if the valve cover is metal, you can replace the spark plug tube seals, but if the valve cover is plastic, you have to replace the entire valve cover.

Re: "Mooing"

I can say for sure that it is the problem, but Nissan only recommends red P/S fluid or red ATF to be used in their P/S systems. Prestone green is used mainly in European makes.

Re: VVT Cover - anyone know the correct seals for it

You should test the oil pressure at idle with the engine warmed up. The oil gallery cover, which is located on the front of the rear timing cover, has a gasket that can blow out and bleed off oil pressure, causing P0011 and/or P0021 codes. You can get kits know that have an updated gasket and new co...

Re: 2006 PF LE Engine Swap - Am I Crazy?

I've looked at my V6 2006 and my V6 2008 and I think the only reasoning for the change in the rake of the nose is just for aesthetics. The only difference I see behind the nose is that they put the auxiliary trans cooler on the driver's side in 2008, moving it from the passenger side in 2005--2007.

I've already done that with ClubFrontier...posted here and shared the link over there. Obviously, if I'm working on the Xterra, it would make sense to post there and link here. It depends where I'm at; I'm all over the place, lately! ;)

Re: 2005 R51 Passenger Front Fold Down Sun Visor

I had the passenger side visor break on my 2008. I had a body shop use their plastic welder to fix it and it lasted for several years. It finally broke again and I found a replacement in a salvage yard for $45.

Re: 92 Pathfinder

The original equipment injectors were Hitachi, which Rockauto used to sell. I've used Autoline remanufactured fuel injectors on my VG33ER and on a Stanza KA24DE, as well as on a Toyota, and never had any problems with them. I don't see why a mechanic would have an issue regarding the brand of inject...

Re: 92 Pathfinder

If replacing an entire set of injectors, I usually replace the fuel pressure regulator while I'm in there. The diaphragm inside of them can fail over time and you are already at the fuel rail when replacing the injectors.
