Steering-wheel mounted audio controls

Postby falcondrgn » Sat Jan 31, 2009 9:50 pm

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to add steering wheel audio controls if the car did not come with it? and if so how hard is it and is it an expensive upgrade? Thanks so much.

Sorry, I have wondered how hard an upgrade it would be with past cars, but with my Pathfinder I already have the steering wheel controls so I can be of no help.

Aside from replacing the actual steering wheel with the Nissan one that has the controls, the only other option is a remote switch that comes with quite a few of the head units, which attaches to the steering wheel. I installed one on my last vehicle, but always thought it was lame to have it on the steering wheel. That all changed when I got used to the controls in the PF though-now I can't live without them.

I dont want to discourage the idea, but dont be surprised if the parts places dont know. Parts catalogs are not designed in a way to benefit upgrades by do-it-yourselfers. In other words, the parts specialist wont be able to look up a steering wheel with audio controls and see all the related parts and hardware that go with it. The only way they would know is if an employee has helped someone before with whatever specific upgrade you are curious about. There is ALOT of trial and error in an effort like this. Even most Factory technicians wont know.

Good luck if you decide to do it and keep everyone posted on your results. Sorry none of us seem to have the answers for ya' falcon, this is just one of those things that no one here has ventured into yet.

Not only that, but if the steering wheel needs to be swapped out, there's no way it will be cheap. The airbag is going to add considerable cost.

the airbag should be replaceable so you should be able to find one without.

I know for sure because I have asked courtesyparts before...no need to swap out the whole steering wheel + airbag!

Double-check with them again, this is what I was quoted some time ago for the plastic cover/assembly:
25552-EA08A SWITCHASSY $48.69

good luck, keep us posted!

I just checked courtesyparts.com and it gave me a quote of $66.10 for the switchassy. Did they just raise the price or something?

My bad...that price quote was from over a year ago! =)
