cool, thanks for the clarification.

and i'll have a shop do it. i consider myself pretty handy, but when it comes to that kinda stuff i'd rather have someone that's changed out diffs. there's a 4x4 (4wheelparts.com) place i would be using, they're local for me here in dallas.

i'm picking up an extra part time gig that i'll be using funds from to hopefully do this. was probably gong to get tires (still stick on whether to get the BFG ATs or MTs) first though.

Ok, after doing some fairly extensive reading on multiple sites, I still have some confusion here.

Courtesy Nissan's site is confusing. It has this listed for the R51:
[38100] GEAR SET-FINAL DRIVE
[38100] GEAR SET-FINAL DRIVE
Pathfinder (R51) 38100-R51003
2008-2010 5.6L V8 48/13=3.692 & 47/16=2.937

It has a similar issue for the Armada:

[38100] GEAR SET-FINAL DRIVE
[38100] GEAR SET-FINAL DRIVE
Armada (TA60) 38100-TA60003

2007+ SE 48/13=3.692
[38100] GEAR SET-FINAL DRIVE
Armada (TA60) 38100-TA60002

2004-2006 SE (! OFF ROAD)
2004 SE (! BIG TOW OFF ROAD)
2004 (! BIG TOW)
2005 & 2006 SE (! BIG TOW)
2005 & 2006 LE 48/13=3.692

It seems as if there are 2 different sets. I've seen rragpaoa mention the diff was upgraded in 07 for the Aramda. Does this mean the FD was also?

I'm wondering where the 3.357 value came into place vs the 3.692.

Any input is appreciated.

The change in 07 was a strengthened housing and stiffer pull out pins for the axles. Nothing more.

I had never heard of those axle rations before you mentioned it. It appears that they are legitimate ratios outside the U.S. I dont know why the parts store you mentioned has it listed it that way. Even searching that ratio the results are pretty meager. Just some forum results and such. Its pretty clear the Armada and Pathfinder V8 in the states have two ratios. The 2.93 or the 3.36.

Finally ordered my FD sets.

But some questions,

You wouldn't happen to have part numbers for the bearings needed as well as the shims/seals etc?

Did your front FD kit come with any of those "master install" items, i.e seals/shims?

I bought mine from Courtesy Nissan, and want to make sure I get everything I need.

On a sidenote, I am on plenty of car forums, moderator on Maxima.org.

I have seen in the past, and after some recent research that the R230 can be found in the Z32 (early-mid 90's) 300ZX, and has since been making it's way to S13/14 (240sx's, and Z33's (350z's) and stock the 300ZX has an R230 w/ 3.69's. Just an FYI.

Does anyone have an idea as to what bearings need to also be installed (should) during? As well as shims and seals needed?

Hey sorry I have no idea about those parts. I purposely bought complete carriers because I knew I was not qualified to rebuild one of those units. I do know that when I spoke to people about switching out the gears themselves they all suggested new bearings and install kit if that helps.

Well, I decided to go ahead and just get the full carriers.

I got one for 618 and the other for 910, shipped. I opted for the 1 year unlimited mileage warranty for an additional 80$, that's why the price was a bit high, and the unit only had 52k on it.

They were able to get away without pelleting them so I saved some $$ on shipping.

I was/still am concerned since the front diff came from an Armada, but the company seemed extremely reputable and stated it had been verified 3x before sending it out to me that it was indeed the 3.36.

The rear is from a QX56, so no worries there.

These are in my garage stinking it up, but hopefully worth it in the end. I'll probably install the last week of this month.

It may be time to start my own thread, vs cluttering up yours.

Awesome. Good luck on the switch. Let me know if you have any problems. A couple random points.

-If I were you I would verify the ratio yourself. Two reputable dealers wrongly verified mine. You can do this by comparing the turns of your 3.36 and 2.93. They should be different for a given amount of turns.

-Make sure your new rear carrier has the speed sensors on each output flange. If not you will have to switch them over.

The front is from Pam's Auto in Minnesota and the rear from Nissan Unlimited in Houston Texas.

Pretty much just used www.car-part.com as a starting point.

MPH @ RPM

At 70 i am turning 2200 rpm confirmed on my gps.
Hi Clay350.
I Will be doing this upgrade as well.
I am going to do the new pin and gears and replace all the seals and barings while i am at it. same way like rragpaoa did.
Just like knowing that its all new. I know changing carriers is faster, but you never know actual miles they have and the history behind them.
Plus buying complete pumpkins is way more expencive.
I have a good friend with auto repair shop with all the goodies, we do favors for eachother, so the work should not cost me anything.
We should make a Graf of A list of MPH @ RPM with original 2.92 gears, and with upgraded 3.356 gears.

We both have 08 V8
Both are same color :D
I dont see anywhere if yours is LE. mine is LE fully loaded.
LE fully loaded is around 5,400 lb's
After weight reduction mine is at 4,600 lb's
With me in it its at 4,800 lb's
I might have little less drag then yours since I dont have the roof rack.
So here is what I have tested on mine with oem 2.92 gears.
This was tested with vehicle speedometer + portable gps + my 7 inch android tablet I use in my car with Pro Torque gauge utility, which has vehicle speed gauge, gps speed gauge, and calculates if any difference between the 2 of them. it also shows exact RPM and tons of other ecu data. all of the gauges I have set up in digital mode to know exact #'s

My list of MPH @ RPM 2.92 oem gears. in 5th speed highway in cruse:

60--MPH @ 1500 RPM
65--MPH @ 1700 RPM
70--MPH @ 1900 RPM
80--MPH @ 2200 RPM -Upgraded 3.356- 70 MPH @ 2200 RPM
85--MPH @ 2400 RPM
95--MPH @ **** RPM
100-MPH @ **** RPM
105-MPH @ **** RPM
110-MPH @ **** RPM
115-MPH @ **** RPM

I will add the rest when I test the higher speeds.
So far you posted that on highway you tested to have 70 MPH @ 2200 RPM
If you still have the oem wheels and tires that would be great. You should be able to find out the rest of the MPH @ RPM.

I've got my stock tires on and can verify the RPM/speed relation if clay has since changed his tires.

Also, I also had to swap out the donor rear axle shafts with mine because they also did not have the ABS sensors. I remember someone pointing that out before.

Great. the more the better. if you both do it we can make sure its accurate.
Yeah i think Clay350 had an issue when changing the rear carrage that he neaded to put the sensors from pathfinder pumpkin.
Do you need to change the entire axel shafts? or just use the pathfinders diff Cover .
When I looked at my rear pumkin, looks like the sensors are mounted on each side of the diff. cover.
Well eather way this will not matter for me since I am using my oem pumpkins. But info can help others if they are going the way you guys did.

You need to switch the actual shafts, seems easier. You'll see once you're in there I think.

Interseting. Same thing I am doing now on my other project.
92 Toyota Cressida with 2JZ-GTE vvti swap. Changing to Supra mk3 pumpkin, had to use supra Axle Shafts, cause Cressida once are diff lenght. But thats a whole other story...
