Tire Pressure question...

What pressure do you mostly run in you Path? i just got a new set of Bridgestone Revos 265-70-16 and want these to last longer than my BFG Long Trails...

i set mine at the pressure on the door jam and do a rotation every 3-4 thousand miles when i do my oil change. that should help your tires last longer.

i run my tires at about 44psi for general road and hwy use, but decrease accordingly when offroad. you have some AT tires....might want to think about a stiffer ride (e.g., higher pressure) for the better gas mileage. NVSteve is running the same tire (slightly different size, i think)....might PM him for specifics on his tire pressure/wear)

Isn't 44 too high? I thought 40 was max?

Anyways, I run my tires at 30 psi and rotate the tires every 12000km.

I'm still running the factory General Grabbers as we only have 12K miles on ours. The max pressure on the tire is 44 so I run them at 40 to leave room for temp shifts. I think the pressure listed in the door jamb is in the high 30's but I bumped it up for better gas milage.

I'm running at about 46-47 on pavement. If one is running a passenger P tire, then stick to the numbers printed on the door jamb. If they are light truck LT tires, they have to be inflated higher than a P tire. P tires are not made for loads, whereas LT tires are & require more psi: for a 2000lb load, a P tire would need 35psi & a LT tire would need 50psi-just random numbers as an example. Most of the LT tires have MAX PSI printed on the sidewalls at 50-80psi +.

oops, yeah...i meant LT instead of AT and that was supposed to be a question (e.g., you have LT tires?).

but i second what steve clarified. (i think my yokos have a max pressure of 65psi, but again, they are LT)

I run my AT's at a constant 50 psi cold +/- 3psi depending on ambient temps. Seems to be the best scenario for my tire and driving conditions. Definitely can't go by the door jamb in my situation. Way too sloppy and soft.

Damn,,,. some high numbers guys... I run 35-37 in my Yokohamas. I wonder what 40 psi would feel like, I need to look on the tire again, I think it was 50 psi max.

I'm running 35psi on Load Range D BFG All-Terrains. The capacity of size LT265/75/16 is 1,910lbs. at 35psi. which is 3,820lbs per pair. The rear axle(the heavier end) capacity of my PF is 3,501lbs. so it is well within specs at that pressure, even for an LT tire.

I've had my pressures kept at about 38 p.s.i. maxed out 40 p.s.i. by the techs at my local Nissan dealer when my rig gets serviced. Pretty consistant too. No probs here with my Generals.

Yea man. I worked my way up from the stock-ish settings of around 33psi by 5lb increments until I found a ride that wasn't too stiff but not sloppy. Even around 45psi it feels a bit washy. But it also appears I run one of the largest size tires both in sidewall and width so if I was down a size or two I'm sure it'd feel as good or better with lower pressure. I'll be doing that as soon as these wear out.

A lot will have to do with weight too. I know my Pathy runs at 5360#'s as it sits compared to stock 4859#'s so with the big side walls I'll need to run a bit higher to reduce the tire roll.

Your Geo's have a max of 51psi according to the site. How do you like them so far and how many miles? Most reports I've heard is that people like them but they wear out too quick (20k-ish miles) on heavy rigs. But I'm talking 7+k rigs.

Yes, 51psi max on the Yoko Geos, I think I will try 40psi and see how I like it, than maybe 45.
