Wheel well upper lip rock damage

Just wondering what others have done in the rear wheel well area, upper fender well side to help keep that body lip from getting chewed up by rocks. I siliconed in a 1" split plastic piece but maybe there are some other fixes. Thanks.

my frontier had a small piece of clearbra applied in that area from the factory. it has helped, but removing it and having a larger patch applied would have helped a lot more.
