External trans cooler or new radiator

Postby zeke » Wed Apr 30, 2014 9:30 am

My 2004 pathfinder has 96k miles and I am concerned about the migration of anti-freeze into the trans fluid. I tow a 2000 lbs boat a few times a year but other than that its my daily driver. A local dealer mechanic advised my to just change trans fluid yearly with OEM Nissan trans fluid. The fluid looks fine at this point. I am looking for any help deciding wether to change the fluid yearly and also wether to replace radiator or just add a external cooler. Thanks.

Your 2004 is not affected by this defect. They started with the R51 models 2005+

Never heard of any coolant contamination with the r50...

I'm with fleurys. The issue of the partition failing that separate the coolant from the tranny fluid were r50s. The sure way to avoid it is the installation of the separate xmission cooler. This removes the close proximity of the 2 fluids. Simply changing the fluid isn't going to prevent it. On your 04 you can do the cooler on it if you want to but I don't think its necessary.
