no really. it can happen especially when i's not serviced. i had the rear diff in my 4runner f- up by a family member who never chaged the fluid. so i take precaution and change the fluid every 30k. that diff cost me almost a grand when it happened.smj999smj wrote:You gotta be in some pretty extreme circumstances to break down gear oil!
How do you know it was the fluid that caused it to fail and not just a mechanical failure of the differential? There are a lot of vehicles on the round with hundreds of thousands of miles on their original gear oil with no problems. Nissan doesn't even have a service interval for diff oil replacement on the R51's.JAHBLESSINGS wrote:no really. it can happen especially when i's not serviced. i had the rear diff in my 4runner f- up by a family member who never chaged the fluid. so i take precaution and change the fluid every 30k. that diff cost me almost a grand when it happened.smj999smj wrote:You gotta be in some pretty extreme circumstances to break down gear oil!
