2008 nissan pathfinder glass hinge(driver side)

Postby J Ellis » Wed Sep 24, 2014 9:40 am

So i am missing the screw or pin that holds the hinge to the car. Went to the dealer and they said they only way is to re-order the whole hinge. Is there any screw or pin that I can buy that will fix my problem?

I have attached a picture of the area.

IIRC, it's just a round dowel with splines on on the end to keep it in place. You could try a junk yard for a hinge, or possibly, if they only have older Pathfinders, knock the pin out of a hinge and see if it'll work. If you can find a piece of steel rod the same size, you could cut it to size and install it, maybe putting a little epoxy on the end of the rod before you finish tapping it through. I would imagine it's probably 4 or 6mm. The main thing is that it has to be a snug fit or the window could rattle, not seal properly, or, most likely, the new pin will just fall out. A new hinge online runs about $36.

To smj999smj or anyone else who might know about this...

On that same upper part of the hinge with the red circle, there is a a screw/nut combo inside that holds the upper hinge to the body. Mine came loose and fell back inside the hinge. Can that screw/nut combo be easily bought at a parts store and installed? Or does the screw coming loose mess up the ability to reinstall a screw in there. IF it can be bought, is it just a small rod with threads and what size would it be? We have a place called Fastenal that carries a wide variety of unusual fastening pieces.

It's hard for me to answer that without actually seeing exactly what's there.

I replaced both hinges about 3 years ago. Took a while for them to arrive as there was a national backorder for the LH one. Easy install. Cost about $40 each.

Wish I knew how to easily include a pic of it but if you go google "Nissan New OEM Pair of Rear Tailgate Window Hinges - 2005-2012 Pathfinder", you'll see it on Amazon for instance and see this pic of the screw that is missing on mine. [/img]

You could probably repair it with a bolt and some epoxy, but, since plastic gets brittle over time and because there is some tension and weight put on that latch, my recommendation would be to replace it with a new one.

I more than likely will replace it, but I just wondered if there could be a way to screw a headless screw rod in there

I look at it this way: the rear glass is tempered glass, not laminated. You find a way to cobble the broken latch together so that it works, but down the road it starts to loosen and then the glass cracks and shatters and now instead of a just a latch, you need a several hundred dollar hatch glass to go with it. Sometimes saving a few bucks ends up costing a lot more.
